power steering pump merc 260 tad noisy

hi all...anybody know if the power steering pump on a 1981 merc 260 (chev 350) would be the same as an automotive one? There's a slight axial movement of the pulley by about .040 inches that i never noticed before and not sure if its normal. also its a bit noisy too. its on a 245 searay 1981 with about 1250 hrs on it (original)......cheers manfred
