Purasan Pressure build up...

Hi Vic, et.al.,
I installed a Purasan and Hold n Treat setup in August 2007 which worked well for several months of regular use (we're liveaboards now). Several weeks ago, the diaphragm pump fuse blew out overnight, not finishing emptying the tank. I replaced the fuse and the pump resumed operating. After a few seconds, the pump becomes very labored and the chemical feed hose was BLOWN OFF the Purasan unit with a resulting mess everywhere.
I thought the thru hull may be plugged, so I rearranged discharge lines to another nearby one - unsuccessfully. Note all hoses were new at installation and the Purasan unit and tank was in a warmed area - ice should not have been an issue.
I followed Vic's recommendation to open the crossover plug and check the crossover area for blockage - nothing detected via the screwdriver test.
The only things left are the discharge line vented loop (not likely) or some kind of plug inside the Purasan unit. Before I pull everything out, any other ideas?

Thanks!
Delaware Jim

Jim, when you relocated the discharge hose to the other through-hull, did anything come running out of it? It sounds as if you've got the granddaddy of all clogs somewhere between the Purasan and the through-hull. If, when you opened the plug in the center of the Purasan, you didn't have a geyser blowing up in the air, I'd look at the vented loop fitting.

Both the diaphragm pump bogging down, and the chemical tube blowing off the Purasan indicate a pressure buildup - if the blockage isn't physically inside the Purasan, then it has to be somewhere in the discharge line leading out of it (to the through-hull).

Vic,
That's my thinking as well. Yes the discharge hose fas full of free running waste water. Opening the crossover plug did release a bit of pressure... I'm disassembling this weekend - I'll report my findings here next week. Any volunteers to assist?!
