I have been trailering my 23 foot Pro-Line and I've had it. I got a cheap slip at a place called Banyan Bay Marine Center off the Dania Canal so I don't have to deal with the trailering thing anymore. WAY too much hassle.

Anyway, I live in Boynton and am unfamiliar with the area. I assume the canal is deep enough at all times and no low bridge issues? The marina is off Anglers Avenue.

I'm told by a buddy of mine that keeps his at Dusky Marine, that no issues with depth or bridges.

Are there any nice anchorages near that area? I think it's about 45 minutes to the inlet. Is that Ft. Lauderdale Inlet pretty navigable most of the time?

Any pointers are most welcome.

Thanks

John

Should not be any issues with depth any bridges with a 23 footer. The railroad and I 95 are about 10 foot clearance. US 1 the same. It is all no wake zone to the inlet so 45 min sounds right. Just west of there is the boaters park hardly ever anyone there picnic tables and park. John Lloyd state park is nice on the ICW. Check it out. Port Everglades is a major port always navigable. You are going to need bottom paint if you don't have it already growth will take over in 2 weeks nice warm water lots of barnacles. I am assuming you have one of their wet slips if your on the rack not an issue.

a little south on the ICW are two nice lake you can anchor in, off Hollywood. further south is Haulover inlet, with a shoal that's a popular destination. I rarely go up this way, but form what i remember it's about an hour from dania and there are some areas along the way that not NWZ

Thanks Guys, I am a bit concerned about your saying the bridges are 10 foot clearance. The folks at the marina tell me the lowest one is like 14 feet? With my spot light and hard top, I need 10 feet.

Thanks for all the advice,

John

I would take my Doral 310 up there to Intermarine (just west of the I-95 bridge) with about 9.5" clearance...it was close, but at any tide I never had any problem with clearance. There is a very narrow bridge further east that you will need to pay close attention to with current...it can really race through there...other than that, no problems...

Fuel dock just North of PE at 15th street fisheries.
Couple of restaurants and Tiki bars on ICW going North.
Popular anchorages, Lake Barbara(pompano) and Boca Lake, north of Hillsboro inlet.

John, I used to keep my 28' Slickcraft up there and never had any clearance issues. You'll be totally fine with clearances. Figure on about 45 minutes to the Port. Some of my favorite acnhorages were Hillsboro Inlet and Beercan Island (inside Haulover Inlet). As was mentioned above, bottom paint is a must or you will have lots of growth in a short time. Also, a few of the marinas up there have stray current problems so make sure you check your zincs frequently.

Thanks very much. Sounds good. They are painting the bottom with Trinidad 77 I think he said. Zincs are new so I should be alright for now. OK now who has some fishing tips for up to say 10 to 15 miles off Ft. Laud inlet? What kind of gear should I get for Dolphin, Kingfish, Grouper, etc. Thanks

"What kind of gear should I get for Dolphin"

A Bigger Boat? LOL....(Just Kidding)

Go to Kingsbury & Son's on US 1 just north of 17th street. They are a long standing bait and tackle shop and can hook you up right. They were very good to me when I was outfitting my boat.

My 315 commander's clearance was 9'6" and I had to put the bimini top down and lay down my outriggers, bend over or squat down to go under the bridges(at high tide). That is a fly bridge boat. I don't think your any where close to ten feet with a 23 Proline just have to put down antennas. My niece has a 22 Proline Sport with a tee top and no problems. 14 feet is about right for low tide. The first bridge east is the lowest Anglers ave.

john;

i keep my boat between the us1 bridge and the I95 bridge. i need 11' min. and 95% of the time its not an issue at US1. I95 is about 1.5 feet shorter than US1 so you are going to need to look carefully at that bridge and your tides. in this area the tides have their own mind and do not always follow the tide tables on over all height or timing. not sure what makes it go. if you like forward me your e-mail address and i can tell you if the tide is unussually low or high.

Keep my 26 silverton flybridge at banyanbay marina. Half to put bimmini down on fly brige at. But can sit up at low tide. Half to duck at high tide.us1 bridge is verey narrow only one boat at a time. And as mentioned above the current runs verey hard use caution

I keep mine at Thunderboat, next door to Banyan. I have a 260 Sea Ray which needs just under 10 for clearance and I've never had a problem with the bridges. Feel free to email me with any questions about the area. I can also meet you there one day (or at Thunderboat) and show you around a bit. estebanjnunez at gmail dot com
