Just read a review on several. One thought was they didn't like the ones that fasten with velcro at the back, because it can loosen, and they preferred the buckle for attaching.
What do you guys think? For 30-50 lb tackle, for small to medium tuna and such.
Does the hook and loop stuff loosen on a long fish fight? any preferences on brand names?
Thanks, Buzz

Surfer, sure the hook and loop can loosen but it is so easy to retighten, not a big deal. I prefer belts that are easy to get on and off so that leaves out the buckle ones. Although I have several types of belts on board the one that gets the most use is the type that is made of plastic and just grips around you butt – no buckle, no Velcro – simple and fast. Jerry

I really depends if you plan on wearing the belt while waiting for a fish or not. If you aren't going to wear the belt all the time, then you really need one the goes on quickly. small tuna = small belt setup= not wearing one all the time.

Giant tuna/marlin/sharks need a much larger system that take times to get on and adjusted properly.

Many guys hunting tuna think it's a jinx to wear the belt in anticipation.

I have the Velcro type belts and they work well.

I have both several velcro & plastic snapbuckle type combo harness/belts and like both types with a slight preference for buckle if the harness is designated for and fitted to me only , but for school tuna and other smaller fish the simple PlayAction B100 "snaparound" belt works great- quick easy on & no adjusting. The do now even make a similar model B800? with reel clips as well, but I have not tried it- I think using reel clips a conventional belt would be more secure.

I use the Velcro types, sometimes they need to be adjusted while fighting the fish but it's usually okay. The key is the guy on the rod needs to be concentrating on keeping tension on the fish and not what's going on with the belt, and let someone else adjust the belt. It's not perfect but seems to work for us.
