Hi Guys,

I am accompanying friends this Wednesday for their water test of the above subject boat. The water test is part of their accepted Offer to Purchase Agreement.

What would you expect the WOT speed to be of this boat? The engines are twin V6 4.3 litre MPI with alpha outdrives. The dealer lists the horsepower of these engines to be 240 Hp each. I see this same 290 SeaRay is offered with the 5.0 and 5.7 litre V8's.

I will be interested too see how this 290 gets up on plane with the V6's? I hope the V6's give adequate performance.

Any other areas you would suggest paying specific attention to? The survey will follow should the water test be deemed acceptable

Thanks,
Mike.

WOT should be listed on top of engines or in documentation -- or check Sea Ray web site as they have archives.

wot RpmS will be listed there or in the manual, but not WOT speed.

Apples and oranges but you may want to ask Rommer. He had a 29 or so Regal with twin 4.3's.

Thanks for the suggestions..........

I tried the SeaRay web site and they listed the various engine options etc., but nothing I saw regarding expecting WOT speed.

I might try sending Rommer a PM if additional information does not surface. I tried searching Yachtworld for 290's in the same year/engine/outdrive configuration for speed information.

Thanks again,
Mike.

Mike,
I've got a 2000 270 Sundancer with twin 4.3's with counter rotating Alphas. My boat is EFI and is rated 210 H.P. if yours are carbs then they would be 190 H.P. The boat runs great and has good fuel economy at 3400-3600rpms. The engines are rated 4400-4800rpm WOT and mine will hit 4800-4900rpms with half fuel and just me in the boat. The boat cruises at 3400rpm which is 30mph and 4900rpms which is 45mph. I'd recommend this boat and have no complaints or problems since I've owned it(six years). I hope this helps.

I had a 2000 290 (same boat) with twin 5.0's (240hp) and Bravo III's. Boat ran and handled well. Top speed was 43-45mph rb2@gr5t 4600-4800rpm. I have never run one, but personally I think that boat with twin 4.3's (190hp) would be under powered. I would guess top spead would be in the high 30mph.
