We all know NOT to use channel 16 for radio checks. So how do we check if our radio is working?

Sea Tow has an automated service, based out of Ossining. All you have to do is tune your radio to channel 24, and broadcast "radio check". You should hear your own message broadcast back to you. This way, instead of relying on someone else telling you how you sound, you'll hear it yourself.

I tried it today and it works great.

When you did a radio check were you at Pennybridge or down towards Croton Point. About 10 days ago I tried it from SPBM. I got nothing. Maybe Sea Tow just activated it for the season. We got used to it this winter in Key Largo FL. There, of course, it's active all year round. Used it every time we went out.

I checked the SWR and it all looks good!

Sea Tow's web site says it's out of Tarrytown. I'll try the next time I am out. Got to be warmer than this for me to go out fishing.

In some areas they must use different channels. I know of a couple of areas where it's 26 and one where it's 25.

It's channel 24 here according to their web site. In Key largo it's channel 27. They are using the marine operator channels which aren't in use anymore.

They moved it to Ossining this year. they had problems with it in Tarrytown. The channel is 24 up here. Sandy hook is 27. As Mike says just say Radio Check and you will here what it sounds like! Heard it from Haverstraw off a portable and at PBM from my boat. Another great service provided by Seatow..

Dan, I think you might need alittle more power in your radio...

I'll see if I can hook up with the new Wilson City plant on Abaco. :D
