Andy sorry to hear the sad news. Hopefully it was not too painfull.
My sister just had to put down a golden that had cancer so bad he would not have a tug of war with me at the xmas gathering.. Not even 8 years old. But he still managed to get a bacon bit down. Leroy was a dang great dog. In spite of being large he was always gentle. HA! He scared the heck out of people that did not know he was just a wuz makin' noise.

Here's how you approach a raftup:
- Radio on channel 69
- HOGAN, HOGAN, HOGAN, requesting a cooler check
- A: This is HOGAN
- HOGAN, I have a 55 quart cooler, requesting a cooler check
- A: Domestic or imported
- Imported of course
- A: Bottles or Cans
- Bottles of course
- A: How much ice and how long have they been on ice
- Two bags, 12 hours
- A: Any chips and dips
- Affirmative, chips and two blondes
- A: OK, tie up to my port, we'll help bring you in.
If you have no women or beer, you get put down at the end with the diesel generator boys and the big wall.
Seriously, I know I only pop in and out of the HRCC/LICC raftups but I hope to be rafting more this year now that we have a nicer boat to overnight in. I was at the 2005 raftup, on Friday evening, my kids and I swam with Art and I was there when the big boys showed up. I also popped in Saturday afternoon/evening but didn't stay long.

We lost the blonde one in October at fifteen and a half years and the black one the day after thanksgiving at 17 years old. After that much time they were very much part of our lives and we miss them daily.
The new dog is great and has a love of life that puts a smile on our faces all day long,
You guys will be able to give her some of your bubba burgers went we get together
Rudy, (some of you know my Husky Chow mix) is going on 15. He has been living with diabeties for 3-1/2 years, is blind at night, has bad knee's, and is pretty much deaf But... he still smiles and rarely makes a fuss so we will keep him around as long as he doesn't show signs of pain & discomfort. I realy dread the day I have to let him go.....

I live on the hudson river in Haverstraw. So I just keep the boat moored behind my house and then take the dingy out to the boat when I want to use it. Trying to build a dock, but that may take a while. Sorry to hear about your dog. I have 2 that are 10 and 11, so I am starting to worry about that. Being single, they are my kids. Anyhow, if you are in the area drop me a line or maybe I will see you at the raft up.

she was a fighter, blind for the last 9 years and you would hardly notice it, on the boat every weekend !
I am sure you will do all that you can for yours to hang around for as long as he can, It's the best we can do

10 & 11, you must be doing a good job, just keep taking care of them
doing what your doing, and they well stay around as long as they can and you will know you gave them the best lives that they could of had
Yeah, I basically feed them scraps off the table in addition to the dog food. Vet is giving me grief about them losing weight, but what can you do, when they ask so nicely! I have not taken them out on the boat yet, but may have to give that a try this summer. Neither one of them likes to swim all that much.

Looking ahead to this summer (A nice thing to do when it is 20 deg outside), is the HRCC/LICC raftup usually during the beginning of August?
Last year we were committed elsewhere and I want to be sure we have a shot at it this year.

Mark, I think we've done 3 HRCC/LICC raftups now (although last time I was the only LICC member), and they've all been in early August. Since a lot of us do trips out east in July, an August weekend has usually worked out best for most people. But it hasn't been on any set weekend. We've done it the past 2 years and back in 2002 I think, with a couple years in between where we didn't make it up due to weather.
I'm not sure at this point if I'll do a Hudson trip this year. We always have a great time, but it's a matter of only being able to fit so much into a summer. Last year we took a couple extra days and went up to Rondout after the raftup and I spent part of the week at Liberty Landing, returning home the following weekend. It's a long trip for me to just go up for the raftup so makes sense to stretch it out. I skipped my fishing club's annual Montauk trip that was the following week, and this year I want to do that trip and maybe combine it with some time at Block Island. I want to keep more weekends clear for tuna fishing this year too, I only did a couple trips last year and not one on my own boat.
Memorial Day weekend might work, but would still be too cold for the usual swimming time. I had also been thinking about maybe going up Labor Day weekend if others would be around, but I might want to leave that clear for a canyon trip. If a raftup gets planned I may just make a last minute decision depending on what else is going on.
