Raritan Marine Elegance

Received my new Raritan Marine Elegance head from BF and, since it's raining like crazy and I can't do anything else, I installed it yesterday to replace the original PHII.

I bought the fresh water flush model with the programmable flush control. Installation was as easy as anything I've ever done to my boat and it works like a charm.

If there is one short coming, no pun intended, it is the height of the unit. But, to overcome this I simply build a riser out of wood, stained it Teak to match the rest of the woodwork in the boat and used it as a mounting plate.

I am totally impressed and satisfied with this unit and strongly recommend it to anyone for any size boat. It looks good, operates very efficiently and quietly.

I do believe that even my Mom would be proud to take a dump in this head.

Vic, the folks at raritan got it right with this unit. The price is more than reasonable and it is as good as any unit I have ever had experience with. well done!

Seriously though, the Elegance isn't as tall as a normal toilet; it was designed to be mounted on the raised step that is molded into many head compartments. In your case, you didn't have the step, so you had to build one. Actually that's better for one reason, it will be quieter when it runs. When you mount it on a fiberglass step, you will often get the sound resonating and echoing from the hard fiberglass. When you build the step out of wood, the wood has a sound-dampening effect.

A taller version is in the planning stages, but I've no idea when it will actually come to fruition.

Also, I've had a number of calls from concerned new owners asking about the fact that it flushes 3 times in a row, for a few seconds each. With the programmable flush control, that's the way it's supposed to work. One of the reasons marine toilets clog, is that the passageways are smaller than in household toilets. Wads of toilet paper will often "catch" in the throat of the bowl, and not want to go down. With the three short vacuum bursts, a small amount of additonal water comes in after each burst, wetting and softening the toilet paper, to make it a lot easier to flush away - works like a champ!

With the less expensive manual controls which are also available, it doesn't do the 3 short vacuum bursts while flushing; it only does it with the programmable control.

The three "little flushes" don't bother me at all. In total, I don't think it uses enough water to fill a canteen. The point with me is "it works"! al the solids, paper and all go exactly where they are supposed to very quickly without delay. It's all chewed up by "the blender" and away it goes.

Personally, I see no need for a taller model. The way I installed mine is very easily removable for easy access for any future maintenance or repairs.

I have the same results as Robert. I may have purchased one of the 1st units by an individual (not a boat builder). I replaced a certified installed VacuFlush had severe clogging problems with my better half, wife's golf um
golf balls. Nothing worked until I switched to the Elegasnce with the smart control head and fresh water flush system. I give it two thumbs up, greatest head I have ever used. Couple it with a Hold-N-Treat re-fit system, I already had a 36 gallon new holding tank and a PuraSan and I think it is the best combination going. Bill
