I have a Raritan manual/electric toilet that needs some TLC. I need to order parts but can't find any marking other than the word 'Raritan' stamped on the gear housing. As far as the age of this toilet, I would guess it was installed in the early 90's from what the previous owner recalls.

It's most likely a PHEII, the electrified version of the PHII manual toilet. It if is a 12 volt model, it would be model # PHEII12.

Does it look like this?

Yep, that looks close enough for me. It appears I have the PHEII12...thanks Vic!

I'm guessing then that all the parts are pretty easy to get? I know I need a rebuild kit plus a few other parts appear to be broken or missing.

C'mon, Wes. Just put a Marine Elegance in and be done with it! ;-)

Oh yeah, Kurt....the Elegance would cost more than I paid for the boat. : )

Replacement parts for the PHEII, if it is more recent than a 1981 model, are all available. They may not be identical to the originals, but the replacement parts will all fit and will all work.

You must've got your boat pretty doggone cheap...! [:-bigeyes] [:-bigeyes]

Marine "Elegance" prices really aren't all that bad, especially through Boatfix:

Hey Vic,

I see there seems to be a difference in the rebuild kits around the 6/92 age. Will that matter much to me?

I might considered the Elegance once I know if I have to remove my ElectraScan and install a holding tank. : (

Jog the motor until the stainless steel piston rod is all the way up, then follow it down to where the rod disappears into the top of the pump. If it goes right through the center of a white plastic hex nut on top of the pump, you have the newer version (post 6/92) and will need repair kit # PHRKIIC. If there is no hex nut there, but instead there's a metal snap ring holding the seal in place, you have the older version (pre 6/92)and need repair kit # PHRKII.

The difference is in the seal configuration for the piston rod. Each version has its own unique seal arrangement, and the necessary parts will not be included for this area, if you get the wrong repair kit.

People ask me all the time on the phone that if they bought the wrong repair kit, will it still work? Uhhhh, if the wrong one will work, why then are there two, for the two different versions?

Will an engine gasket set for a Chevy 454 also work on a Dodge 440? Take a rough guess...

(Not directing my sarcasm at you; just expressing frustration at some of the calls I get on the phone. Most of the problems come up because many of the clerks at Worst Marine and other marine stores don't have a clue, and simply want to sell something to the customer who walked in, without having to do any work to find out whether or not it's the correct item that the customer needs. You'd be amazed at the number of calls I get from Worst Marine personnel, asking me THEIR part number for one of our parts. How the h*ll do I know? But actually I do; I have a "cheat sheet" part number cross-reference, that I compiled a while back - but it isn't current, I compiled it about 8 years ago.)

Boy did a hit a nerve!!!!

Only kidding Vic...no sarcasm noted.

I just wasn't sure if the changes were minor or not. The toilet flushes and goes thru the motions but does need some TLC.

Thanks for the explanation on the differences between the models. That is extremely helpful information to have and I know hard to come by.
