Is there another Red Hook up there that is a local name? Don't recall that from my trips up that way. Articles say it was off Tivoli, just below Saugerties.

Good question. There are all sorts of obstacles along the Hudson that people could run into. But then there are people that run into the buoys also.

Edit: The Poughkeepsie Journal has some photos of the site. It's really close to the shoreline.

I saw that yesterday on google maps. It is large enough to make out in the satellite image. I didn't think it was what they hit because of how close to shore it looked.

It has me wondering also but people will be people. We learned that this was Jay who worked as a mechanic in the marinas here in Kingston. Over the years we chatted with each other here and there. Sad.
