Regal 2400 Head System with "pump out" option

Hello from a Regal 2400 owner in the UK. I am new to Regal but so far "love it to bits" - I have moved up in size and have a head for the first time. It has the pump out option and I am not sure how it works. As I understand it it is like a normal porta potty, but plumbed in, but no "holding tank" - is this correct?

We trailer the boat and if I let me good lady use the loo, how do I pump it out. Can I buy a pump and attach to the waste socket?

Any other 2400 owners out there - how does it work??

Somewhere on the boat you will find a cap marked "Waste" Probably near the stern or on the side gunwales.

You need to go to a pumpout station. They will have a hose that fits in the opening marked waste and by using suction pull the waste out of the porta-poti.

BTW - the porta-potti itself is the holding tank, about 3-5 gallons of "stuff" can be stored. As long as you have pump-out stations available to you it beats carrying the loaded device and dumping it in a toilet on shore.

Sorry I didn't explain myself fully. Where we boat, there is no facility for this. Therefore I have do devise something so that I am self sufficient.

if there are no local regulations regarding waste discharge you have two choices. 1, you can install a maserator pump to empty the holding tank overboard when you choose to. 2, you can reroute the vacuflush to discharge directly overboard rather than the holding tank with the installation of a thru hull fitting and y valve.

personally i would choose the first option so i had control of when the waste is discharged, ie no one in the water behind the boat. :)

both are relatively easy to do.

Those type of pumps are typically used to pump the waste overboard. Check local regs to see if thats allowed in your area.

I see no reason why you couldn't use one to pump the waste to an outside tank. My only concern would be the head pressure, the hight you would need to pump the waste in order to get up and over to the dockside waste tank.

I don't think it would prime as an outside based pump.
 
jmt, There is a member on boatered who uses a pump like that to create a personal pump-out system that pumped wasted into his home's sewage pipes from the waste fitting on the boat. I haven't found it yet (still looking), he posted pictures and part descriptions. It appeared to have enough suction to prime in his case. It would probably depend a lot on the length and height of the tank to pump out fitting. The only other parts needed were a PVC plumbing fitting (1.5" I think) and a long length of clear pipe.

If I find the thread I'll post it.

I chose not to get the pumpout option. I trailer my 2400 and didn't want to drive to a marina to pump out ,when I can just lift out the holding tank part of the sani-poty and empty it in the bathroom.

You might be able to disconnect the pumpout and convert back to "removable" type. Check with the porta poty manufacturer.

As messy as it may seem, I used a shop vac last time. The reson, I forgot to pump out at the dock, and when I got home someone had used the potty. At any rate, the shop vac worked better than the dock. I just stuck the hose in the pump out port at the stern and out it all came. Of course disposal from the shop vac was no fun.

Looks like I have 3 choices.

1) Convert back to "portable" porta potti - disconnect the lines and take out unit to empty.
2) Do pump on outside as per link from Jon it is superb idea (thanks Jon for digging it out, I saw that once but couldn't find it again).
3) Plumb a pump in line somewhere in the boat.

I will look at all 3 when the boat comes back from being winterized (cold here in the Uk already!!)

I like the idea of 2) - just have one what might be a really daft question/point - when I suck at the moment at the waste socket, you just get air - is that because the potty is completely empty? It seems to suck air in though through the vent next to it?

When you have a vacuum pump connected to the deck plate you will need to pull a fair amount of vacuum to get the waste up to the fitting and out. If the tank is completely empty, yes you will pull only air.

i'm certain there are hand operated vacuum pumps made for pulling bildge water and or trash water that will work to empty the tank if you don't want to install an on board electric pump. if you trailer the boat there should be a facility for RV's that will allow you to drain the waste if you have a pump to lift it out of the tank.
