I own a 2005 Regal 3880. Some comments and questions. I read about the tilt towards the Starboard,my boat has it also but is not much. I was planning to put a bracket on the transom on the starboard side for the tender motor but I am afraid that will increase the tilt. Were do you put your tenders and motors? The clear plastic on the bridge has been damaged by the sun in 2 years, how long is it supposed to last? The main problem is in the front that faces east and is difficult to maintain.

The best way to keep the isinglass is to keep it clean and properly maintained. If you don't the sun kills it very quickly as you are finding.

I use the Imar products and they make it really simple.

As for the tilt, I find keeping my fuel tanks full seems to minimize it.

Here's a picture of our tender/motor setup.

John,
Why did you mount your satellite on the port? I was thinking starboard for mine,

Because that is where the original TV antenna was which I no longer needed with the satellite system. Plus on the starboard side is the GPS antenna for my upgraded chart plotter. (Hard to see in the picture but it's there.)

I just went with what was there already Dave. No other reason.

Jose,
I had the same tilting problem with my old 392 Silverton. Once I filled my water tank the issue went away. As far as the tender, I mounted mine with a hurley Davit like the picture above. But with my motor to the port side. That should also help with the leaning of the boat.
For the Stragaglass, use the Imar products. They are the only products that Strataglass recommends. Use the polish to take out minor scratches and then the spray cleaner. I use the cleaner on my boat once a week and the polish a couple of times a year. The glass is like new.

Just an FWIW the davit system was setup as it is because at the time we had a port side tie up and having the dink that way gave us the most room to get on and off the boat. We have a starboard tie now so the point is moot but we still have plenty of room to pass the dink.

I could reinstall the davit but not that big a deal for us.

Jose,

After 6 years of use, I replaced all my panels 2 years ago with strataglass 40 mil sheet (as opposed to rolled which Regal used). While most panels still look like new, the front center and rear panels are a different story. My front panel has an easterly exposure and has began getting cloudy even thou only Imar products were used in cleaning, I contacted strataglass and they agreed to replace for free, but I decided to go with a Makrolon AF Polycarbonate panel instead, so that panel was also redesigned (will install in April). This product can not be rolled, so I will zip it to the bimini.
The rear panel seems to show premature signs of aging due to the fact I take it down most of the time and roll for storage. I have been told by Strataglass that panels on such an angle tend to not look as good as vertical panels over time.

I also redesigned the side panels to provide a tight fit along with canvas behind all poles to prevent contact. The roll window has also been changed in shape.

Hi Rommer,

Our setup is similar to yours with Weaver clips and Weaver Leaver for the 15HP outboard. The outboard is on the starboard side so we also prefer port docking.

We're still on the Loop and have made it down to Pensacola. We're heading east on Tue. for Fort Walton Beach and will do the Gulf crossing in a couple of weeks. We might get down to Capt. Skip's area pretty soon.

Gary,
I will have to look at your top. I know mine is new but I can tell already that the original stuff Regal supplies won't last. It is very thin. I was wondering if you can remove than angle piece in the back and put a straight up and down piece. Why does the sunpad need to be behind glass?

I was also wondering if anyone has ever been a hardtop on the 3880/4080. May look into that after a few years before I replace all the glass.

One of the benefits of the the back vinyl is that it helps keep the rain out of the cockpit area. Doesn't do a perfect job but at the least it does let you go from the salon to the bridge without getting wet while going up the bridge stairs which are not under the bimini.

We took it one step farther and had an enclosure made for the cockpit. Adds a tremendous amount of usable space. Bridge gets heated in the spring and fall just by leaving the salon door open. We also can AC the area with a portable unit on sticky evenings. Doesn't really work well on hot sunny days but that's when you want to open things up anyway.

I plan to look at getting tha back enclosure made.

I looked at the way the back piece covers the stairs and that could be redesigned to cover stairs and the switch to straight up and down piece to avoid slope by sun pad. That piece seems to take the most abuse from sun and rain. Maybe if it was more sunbrella and small window would be better.

Dave,

I plan to have a bridge curtain made this summer to replace the rear vinyl. It will zip to the bimini and come down to right behind the seats including a door to allow acces to bridge, therefore adding protection to the seats.
When the rear vinyl is removed, I also had an additional piece of canvas designed to assist in supporting the side curtains.

Yes, I do. My picture site crashed when I was upgrading it so I have to go find the links which are different since I rebuilt it. (Note to self, never work on your own sites without backing them up first like you would do for a client!!!!)

the best thing to do with the plexi glass is; take it down when you don't actually need it and store it below out of the sun. it will last for years that way. use a sunbrella or equal dash cover to protect your instruments.

Though not closeups I have some shots of mine.
Mine is different that others in that I also have canvas where some bars are.
My bars are on the inside.
And my canvas stops at the the windshield, others come down to the fiberglass.

I have an odd question. For the people who's boats are out in the sun all the time can they tint the windows of the canvas? Why don't they come with some UV control? Mine stays under cover so it doesn't matter much for me but this thread made me think about that.

Off topic...for those who own this boat with the Horizon 7.4 380 HPs what is your GPH at cruise? What RPM does she like to cruise at?

We looked at one today and loved it.

Greg,

I have a 2001 3780 and purchased it new with the same engine configuration.
I normally cruise at 3200rpm at 21mph with a burn rate of 25-28gph combined (not based on scanners). The sweet spot for this boat is between 25-28mph for best ride, but I don't do this as often as I used to as I am approaching 700hrs on engines.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Good Luck,

Gary
