In June of 2005, I purchased my first boat--a Regal 2450 (cuddy cabin). Since then, I've put about 70 hours on it in the Seattle area on Lake Washington.
This past weekend, I was in Boise, ID visiting my brother and we went out on his 2005 SeaRay 22' Sundeck (open bow). After driving his boat, I must say the SeaRay was:
1. Much easier to steer (think power steering vs. not)
2. Much more agile in the water
3. Much faster accelerating from stop and from speed.
4. Overall, just much more fun
Both boats have comparable specs--dual prop, 300hp Mercury Mercruiser, etc. I've considered things like wind conditions, number of passengers on boat, etc. We boated in Boise on a lake as well.
Given that these boats are reasonably closely priced, I'd expect the differences to be marginal at best. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on this. Since the Regal is my first boat, I didn't have much basis for comparison.
I called the dealer today that I bought the boat from (under new management since I bought it) but had to leave a message and haven't heard back yet. I'd like to get someone who KNOWS how the Regal should perform to go out on a trial run with me. Is there anything else I should be doing? I considered calling Regal direct, but thought I'd try and work with my local dealer first.
Finally, last winter when I took the boat in for maintenance, they identified a manufacturing flaw where the engine and the driveshaft had not been properly aligned due to missing shims. This was "fixed" and when I got the boat back it felt completely different--like it had been turbocharged. But even now, comparing it with the SeaRay, it still seems sluggish out of the water and not nearly as responsive when turning at slow or fast speeds.
Thanks, and sorry this got so long...
