DMV can be unbelievabel (big surprise) Went to register the boat I had bought from my marina; they has seized it on a "mechanic's lien" because it had been abandoned there (and I wanted it). Took 3 months for them to get paperwork from Marshal. I paid them the sales tax. Took all the paperwork and registration forms to DMV in Medford. Usual 20 minute wait. Inspected everything, checked it off, and then told me I had to mail it to Albany with a check for $50 for a clear title. It's a 1986 boat so there is no title, just registration. Photocopied everything and mailed it away, registered, return receipt. Three weeks later I get it all back with a note that it should have gone to the local DMV office! Went back to DMV and they tell me to mail it to Albany! I show them the note from Albany; they call a conference with a supervisor who pulls out the guide book. Sure enough, they're supposed to handle it. OK. Clerk starts process on computer and then finds out she's out of registration blanks! She farms me off to another clerk, who tells me I should mail it to Albany! Clerk #1 says, "No, we do it" and leads her through. They gives me a registration, non-transferable. A few months later I get the correct registration in the mail. P.S. For some reason they changed the registration numbers! I had to peel off the numbers from the boat and stick on new ones. But I've got the paper and am set for 3 years. Isn't boating fun? Hy
 
I got a DMV story for yea.

Due to a poor driving record while growing up I had to procure a FL drivers LIC.
I purchased a motorcylce in NY and was able to get a NY motorcycle LIC while still keeping
My FL drivers LIC. FAST forward now many years and tickets later . I broke down and HAD
to get a NY drivers LIC for my pistol permit. WHen i went to DMV to turn in my FL drivers LIC
they would not honor my NY issued motorcycle LIC. I kid u not ... so I walked out of DMV horse
from all the yelling and only with a NY drivers LIC. ( i no longer had a motorcycle ) but
was nice to still have it . ( it was many of the joys I gave up to get married ) I should have known
I was better off with the bike !!!!!

Rob, you may be better off… Stick to boats. I still have my class DM. Years ago when I live in Brooklyn; I had a 1100cc V65 Magna and was coming home from the beach on the Belt Parkway. It was stop and go traffic in the center and the sun was in my eyes. I ended up rear ending a car, flying over my bike onto the trunk of the car bounced off into the fast lane…. A car was heading right for me and slammed on his breaks and stopped with the bumper just over my head after taping me a bit. I had a little road burn and pebbles stuck in my hands and legs.

I was helped to the shoulder, I was ok and the bike had issues but I could ride it. So everyone left, no medical help needed. All of sudden these guys came from nowhere and offered me $5 for the bike… And I had no choice… I am not kidding. Did I mention I was not in the best area on the belt, I think I was near Linden Blvd or Pennsylvania Ave, I forget.

All of sudden these Latinos riding together pulled up with about 5 or 6 bikes. They must have realized I was in deep Sh$% They sent the “African Americans” packing. Then told me they did not really like “gringos” but I was one in the same on the bike. They helped me do a couple quick fixes and I drove home. I did stop at my local water hole and pounded back a few. I was one lucky guy. The bike was gone two weeks later…..

I have been lucky... two close calls both pretty much my own fault ...

one was high rate of speed on the R M causeway and a car changing lanes didnt see me ,
I ended up sandwiched between the car and the GRASS... ( not pretty )

2nd incident was trying to catch the ferry that runs between conn and Long island
(i dont remember which one ) We were at mystic aquarium and were runing late getting back to the last ferry
So a bunch of us yahoo's flipping tru traffic again at high rate of speed. Some how i ended up on
the side walk ( the road narrowed and a sidewalk had begun ) and I needed to lay
the bike over to make a hard right turn at considerable speed. So in like a millisec I had
to start a turn straighten up to get off the side walk and then lay the bike
down again . ( all with a passenger on the back ) Those that ride can appreciate this is no easy task.
WE made the ferry.... I still get goose bumps when I tell that one .
