We have several windows that are now laminated safety glass (two pieces of glass with thin plastic sandwiched inbetween the two layers of glass) in the salon area of our trawler. We are looking to replace the glass as some windows are cracked - others show the glass seperating from the plastic along the edges of the glass.
We are considering replacing the glass with acrylic of the same thickness (between 1/4 and 3/8 inch). There are several issues in doing this: strength, scratching, safety, and clearness among other.
Does anyone have any experience in using acrylic as a replacement? Most of the information I have read relates to using acrylic to replace glass in aquariums. Any insight would be appeciated -
