Was passing Republic today and I noticed that a Delta Airlines, A320 was landed there. Its parked just off RTE 109

Isnt that kind of a big plane for there? Anyone know why a commercial liner is at republic??

The Islanders used to fly out of Republic and Air Force One has landed there many times. The runways are supposedly around same length as those at Laguardia.

Are you sure Air Force One landed there? If the runways are around the same length of LGA, then I doubt it landed there. AF1 is a 747, I know the runways at LGA are not big enough to land a 747..

Air Force One is not a specific aircraft, it is any aircraft the current president is on. The weekend before 9/11 Bush was at my local airport (Allegheny County outside of Pittsburgh) in a 757. AGC's longest runway is 6500'
We were conducting charity flights {Wings for Children),tours over Pittsburgh. We were allowed to fly the tours until Bush came back to his aircraft.

Bush II landed there in 2004. I had to be there for work that day. I have no idea what plane he was in, but it said "United States of America" in blue with the flag on its tail. It was a jet...other than that i couldnt tell you.

I don't know how long the runways are, but keep in mind....both Republic Aircraft and Grumman flew military aircraft out of there for years, back in the heyday of aircraft manufacturing on Long Island...in fact the main Republic assembly buildings were just to the north of the airport on Conklin Street, near where the American Airpower musem is today.

Any plane the President is on is Air Force One. I saw the plane your talking about and I'd say that's the biggest plane they've ever had there. I knew a supervisor from UPS who told me that during the holiday rush they fly in 737 cargo planes. The pilots don't like it because the runways are to short if they have an emergency.

Yea, you are right. Any plane the POTUS is in is AF1. I just assumed the 747 landed there..But you know what happens when you assume......

Ive seen private boeing 737s at Republic before. The Commercial airliner is what I found to be pretty strange. Its also in an area of private planes. Its on the 109 site, not the New Highway side where the private jets are, that go to AC..

I would have loved to see that plane land there

If you like to see that, you should have seen the C5A that picked up the A10 prototype some years back. I remember being there with my Dad on a very cold day, watching through a fence in the woods with a big crowd as they loaded it up, on the south end of the field. Now that thing was big.

Ron, I just googled the C5A, that thing is fricken MASSIVE. 6 stories tall it says. That must have been a site

I had no idea you could privately rent a commercial airliner...

Delta and most other carriers have a charter Dept. Mostly sports teams, but if you have the $$$$ Delta is ready when you are!

The Islanders and the visiting hockey teams fly their charters out of Republic. It was most likely one of them.

I can see a C5 landing /taking off from Republic as it ‘only’ needs 6000 ft of runway were a 747 need 8000+
I think Republic’s longer runway is 6800+ft

747 routinely operate out of 6500 ft runway (like LGA) and can do 5000 ft runways with a light load. These distances allow stopping on the runway in case of an abort.

Republic airport rwy. 14-32 length is 6827' X 150' wide and is grooved

The Delta plane you saw was the Minnesota Wild's charter plane. They played the Islanders the next afternoon. There are three types of bigger, commercial jets that come into Republic regularly... charter flights for teams that play the Isles and the Isles charter flights themselves, big entertainers/ bands that play at Jones Beach and sometimes other spots (Coliseum) plus JoLo and Marc Anthony's plane which is a big 727. They live in Brookville and fly out of Republic all the time, although now they are separating.

And yes, air force one did land there, although it was a 757, not a 747. The Islanders charter is a Miami Air 737.
