Does anyone know if the following restaurants are open this month?

Sugar Barge
Rusty Porthole
Outrigger marina
Turner Cut
Helen and Hermans

I know both the Outrigger and H&H have been closed for some time but I haven't heard anything for the last year about them and wondered if someone had opened them up. I am especially interested in eating places and bars open around Bethel Island this month.

DBH, last Sunday, 31 Jan, I was down on the dock and didn't go in but it looked like Sugar Barge restraunt was closed. My boat building friends and I had chili dogs at Rusty Porthole. If you have wheels you might want to go to La Costa on Hwy 4 in downtown Oakley. If you don't have wheels you might want to put some Costco chicken bakes in your cooler. I haven't been to Herman and Helens on the So. Moke for a few years but I thought they sold their rental hoseboats and closed the restraunt. Last Sunday the fog lifted at 11a, the water was like greased glass, we took 4 of our hand crafted boats to Mildred to knock the varnish out of our carbs, there were a few duck hunters at Mildred and on Franks Tract but we pretty much had the slus to ourselves. Did the indoor restaurant at the Sugar Barge ever open last year? I ate at the restaurant on the deck upstairs a few times, but the indoor part was not open and didn't look to be in business.

I think they opened the bar next to the marina store at Sugar Barge last summer and I don't know if they served apatizers in the bar or not but I think the dining area has been closed for a year. I know they were serving fried food last year on the flying bridge all summer because I saw people up there as I launched and returned. They had a Halloween party for us dry storage customers and I think that was in the club house in the RV park.

Hello all,the happy harbor is open and the food is great, this place is a true sleeper we have been twice in the last month and both times the food has been great!!!!! And believe it or not the pizza is fantastic there! We need to patronize the few good restaurants we have here on the delta and this is one of them!

I suggest you call any restaurant in the Delta before planning to eat there. Sometime only the bar is open and the kitchen is closed, etc. On Bethel Island there are a couple good restaurants downtown on Bethel Island Rd near the bridge. If you're a yacht club member [any PICYA club], you can tie up at the SJYC docks and walk down the levee to three good places: LaVilla Mexican, Island Joe's American and GR Marshall's Bistro [upscale with new lower prices]. All three are consistantly very good. Stay away from Tug's unless you are shopping for substances other then food for your body.....

Also SJYC serves a $12 Family Style dinner every Friday night. And they may be serving a meal on Saturday night. It is worth a phone call. 925-684-2390 or 925-684-9985.

Thanks all......hoping for good weather next weekend (not this one) Unfortunately or not, some of the guys I boat with may fit in at Tug's but I am getting a bit long in the tooth for such carrying on.

I'll second Flutterby's recommendations. SYYC has great food and alot of fun. GR Marshell's has good food(and clean)and good prices. Its worth your time.

If you are looking for breakfast or lunch, Korth's is always open.

Last time I went by Korths, I think the sign said Closed for the Season. If I get by there this weekend, I'll post what I see.

According to a letter in Jan Yachtsman from the Herman and Helen's renovation project manager, the cafe is scheduled to reopen in March.

I met the new owner of H & H Marina a few months after he closed escrow. He had a lot of great plans for the place. The all hell broke loose in the financial world and he couldn't secure a loan. So he has basically been limping along for quite some time. It seems he now has been able to get a loan, but not at the amount to handle his original plans. So he is doing things on a smaller scale for now.

Too bad his timing was so bad! I hope he is able to make this marina a vibrant go to destination again.

Although this doesn't address DBH's OP, I second yzer's comments about Happy Harbor and Spindrift.

Happy Harbor has been consistently putting out great meals at great prices this past year or so. What the place lacks in ambiance it makes up in food quality. Kim and Joe are doing a wonderful job.

Chris at Spindrift has daily specials that are always interesting and a great value. Nice place. Never had a bad meal there.

I'm lucky to have these two restaurants so close to my boat at Riverboat Marina.

I drove by Korths and saw the same sign. We used to get breakfast at Happy Harbor every once in a while years ago. Food was good but the place was kind of a dump inside and reeked of stale cigarette smoke. I guess that's ok if you smoke. Got a great bloody mary there this past summer and the place looks much better. We also like Spindrift and they have a lot of good daily specials.
