Due to the Air Show, most of Franks Tract will have boating restrictions beginning at 9 AM through the end of the Air Show.

USCG, CCC Sheriff and Vessel Assist will be enforcing the area. There will also be several civilian vessels assisting. Please respect these restrictions.

Just to be clear - does this affect the channel that goes around Franks Tract? I'll be at a cruise-out at Mildred, coming home on Sunday and this could affect us!

Thanks for the info, Liz!

Steve, I have an email which shows the exact location of the closure. It is a pdf file which Photobucket will not upload, so I can't copy it here. I'll forward this to you [and anyone else who requests it] via email.

I would avoid Piper Slu if you can. Stay on Old River which runs between Mandeville and Franks Tract then bear to the left into Washington Cut which runs along Webb tract and Franks Tract and connects to False River.......

There will be USCG, Sheriff, CG Aux and other identified volunteers patrolling the closure area by boat. Please monitor Ch 16 and follow their instructions. I suggest you allow extra time for your return. There will be lots of boats "hanging around" to see the airplanes and it may be tricky to maneuver amongst them. Heck, might as well find a good place and stop to watch the show yourself!

I'll be at a levee party where I berth my boat. My boat will stay safely in its slip. Flutterby doesn't like crowds!!!!!

From the .pdf map it looks like Piper Slough will not be closed and that the restrictions don't go into effect until from 12 noon to 2:30pm.
Comments?

Thanks again, Liz. I'm not sure now if we'll be going. There's a slow leak in my power steering system somewhere, and Matt's supposed to see about fixing it this week. If he can't get to it, or can't get it fixed in time then we'll be doing 'plan b' instead. Don't even know what plan b is right now, but we'll think of something!

Well, if you don't mind fighting the traffic coming onto the island, come over to the air show!

Any suggestions on where to anchor if we're coming from Stockton via the San Joaquin?

Well, we did the cruise out to Mildred. Matt couldn't really find where the leak is - it's obviously not a big one. He put a 'diaper' under the pump and told me to just keep an eye on the fluid level and see what happens. We got back today (watched some of the air show while we were coming around Franks Tract) and when I checked the 'diaper' there were 3 or 4 'drops' on it. Still can't really tell where they're coming from - the drops were not all in the same place (weird, eh?), but I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

Anyway - all that to say that we didn't see the whole show, of course, but what we saw of it was spectacular!

We did have a problem with the engine, however, which I'll talk about in a separate post ....

I found the air show to be great! Too bad more people didn't come out to BI to view it. There will be another Air Show at the Pittsburgh Seafood Festival.........I hear the CG/Sheriff had trouble getting people to clear the area before the show could start! Especially the bass fisherman out of Russo's/Hook Line & Sinker....no one had told them about the restrictions. Shame on Hook Line & Sinker! They must have known about it and should have advise boaters that Sunday morning. I guess after they were threatened with being towed to jail, they decided to comply. Idiots!

There were four "Top Gun" plane who flew in the exciting formations of Blue Angels, and CG helicopter water rescue demo and a stunt plane....I think it was an old WWII trainer type. Lots of fun for everybody! Then we all had a great BBQ and potluck on the levee. They have levee parties out there instead of block parties! Great weekend.

You know, I didn't know a lot of people who even knew there was going to be an air show. It didn't seem to be well-publicized.

Gee, it was broadcast on an FM radio station 88. something or other. I'm sure they had announcements prior to the show. And Ch 3 or 10 mentioned it in their Friday morning broadcast. Also there was a write up in the East Contra Costa Times and in the Delta Chamber eNewsletter. I'm sure it was publicized elsewhere too. Those are just the ones I heard or saw for myself.

However the show last year was a real bus, so people who were there or heard about that one probably weren't interested!
