Hi

I currently have a Jabsco 37010 electric head, with raw-water flush going to a 120 ltr holding tank in my 2006 Larson.

As mentioned in some earlier posts, I find the electric loo to be noisy and tends to take a while to regain it's prime when flushing.

I was quite happy with the Jabsco Manual head in my previous Bayliner, and I'm thinking of converting from electric to manual.

So - Two Questions -

1/ This seems like a retrograde step...anyone ever gone down this backward path ?

2/ I don't have pump-out facilities in my area, so I use the overboard dump to empty the holding tank. But the new boat uses a diaphragm pump to empty the holding tank. (Old boat had a macerator). Would the manual head macerate the waste well enough to allow me to continue to use my diaphragm pump ?

Thanks,

Wayne

1/ Not done it personally, but folks have for the reasons you mention.

2/ You will need a macerator. The Jabsco does not macerate.

I do not know what your budget it but when all is said and done, you could spend a bit more and get a lectra-san setup and a quiet electric head and be done with it. A few folks at the marina have made the conversion and wondered why the option wasn't available from the factory.

There won't be any problem using the diaphragm pump to empty the holding tank. Manual toilets, while the don't macerate per se, they force the effluent through the slit in the joker (duckbill) valve when they eflush. Everything, after going through duckbill valve, is like the consistency of mud by the time it gets to the holding tank.

Same thing with the diaphragm pump being used to pump out the holding tank. The diaphragm pump has two sets of duckbill valves inside it. I see no problem whatsoever in going that way. Plus for reliability, the diaphragm discharge pump is vastly superior to the conventional macerator pumps - no impeller inside it to burn out.

Forget the Jabsco . . . . if you really want to go to a manual toilet, pay a few extra dollars for the Raritan PHII. The leverage with the handle for flushing and the ease of use for guests is worth the extra bucks.

I converted my previous boat from electric to manual. Same reason... I didn't like the time or noise it took to use the electric pump. I was fine with manual and it worked fine.

My new boat has vacuflush electic and so far I'm very happy with it. I wouldn't switch this one to manual unless it started giving me major problems.
