Rideau Canal

THAT has to be one of the best Visual Cruise-Alongs I've seen in a long time.
Thanks for the great trip.

struchen:
Have you tried the Trent Severn yet?...It's also an excellent trip...
I have done the Loop from Kingston to Montreal via the St Lawrence and then to Ottawa via the Ottawa River and then to Kingston via the Rideau...
Very nice trip, but to me the Trent is far more scenic...

Carver:

Can't to seem to get the wife away from the Rideau.

Would like to do the Trent. Probably start at Peterboro.

Don't mean to hijack this thread as it was about the Rideau...but you mentioned the Big Chute on the Trent, so I thought I'd send along these pics of the marine railroad at Big Chute.

the loaded car heading down....

The railroad was used instead of a traditional lock to keep the lamprey eels of Georgian Bay, from reaching Lake Simcoe. It's quite a ride.

VERY cool website. Looking at that series of pictures and reading the story makes me want to get a boat i can trailer instead of a bigger flybridge boat! Ah heck...i'll just have to get the bigger boat and motor up that way!

Woodsong: I vote for the bigger boat. I'll take it up if you don't have the time. Ha Ha.
