I just purchased a 150' rode with 10' of 1/4 chain on the end. It is made for a windlass, and if you consider hand-over-hand, well, then, I have a beer-powered windlass. Anyway, I am curious how everybody connects the anchor to the chain rode end.

What I did was connect a 3/8 stainless quick link to the chain rode; it didn't quite fit, but using basic technology, I MADE it fit. I then tightened this down and ran a 3/8 anchor shackle through this, and through the anchor. I wired the shackle closed with picture wire.

the quick link is rated at 2000#, the anchor shackle is rated at 1500#, I assume the 1/2" rope rode and 1/4" chain rode is rated somewhere in between. I am pretty sure that this will hold my 23' cabin cruiser, as I previously had only a 3/8 rode.

What do you think?
