I have a 2000 maxum 33scr with twin 5.7 mercs rwc.
I am pulling an exhaust manifold, riser and elbows to check it's condition (the boat is 5 years old) and took off the elbow. I noticed there is no little flapper mechanism after the elbow to prevent water from washing back up into the exhaust. It doesn't look like there was ever one there. I haven't pulled the other manifolds yet but I have a feeling they don't have one either. On my previous boat I had to replace them. I replaced stainless steel with rubber ones.
My question is: If this boat doesn't have them, should I add them? Does anyone have a boat that didn't come with them? Isn't this usually standard equipment?
