I need to replace my engine compartment bilge pump. I have been looking at the RULE fully automatic bilge pumps. They are supposed to be a computerized pump that is completely submersible, with a built-in float switch/water sensor. Apparently, the pump turns on, with minimal electrical draw, every 2-1/2 minutes to sense the presence of water. If water is present, the pump fires up and pumps out the water. Has anyone used these pumps or know of any anecdotal stories about them to help me decide if I should purchase one? Thanks for any assistance!

I have one on my boat in the forward bilge. Seems to work fine.

The only problem is that sometimes when I have the engine compartment open and working on something it startles me when it conducts it's periodic test.

I had one a few years back, and had to get rid of it because it wouldn't shut off.

I still think Rule is the best bilge pump for pleasure boats, but I prefer having a float switch to turn it on and off.
