Running a New Antenna Cable

I know we have a box behind our TV that allows us to switch from ship to shore. We have another box further back that the coaxial cable connects to. Maybe start there tracing back.

BTW, I just removed our 13" TV/VCR combo and replaced it with a 19" Flat screen with a stand. The stand fits perfectly on the pull out and swivels nicely. I have not permanently mounted it yet. I was surprised to see the TV fit so nicely on top of the pull out the old TV sat on.

Can you attach a strong wire to the end of the TV Antenna cable and reverse pull it back up to the arch using the old one as the fish snake?

That's great advice, but it's bundled with some other wires, so I can't pull it thru.

Thanks for the reply.

Greg,

What brand and model TV did you get? I'd love to do the same thing, but most that I have seen are just too wide, as the installed TV is more vertically shaped with the VHS player on the bottom.

Is it digital? Would sure like to do without the converter box, although it does work very well with a good antenna connection.

Thanks for the info.

If it's bundled with others.......its almost impossable to do. Your better off starting fresh with a snake.

Once you get the snake in and get ready to pull the new antenna wire.....you may want to attach a extra pulling line ....and pull it thru with the new wire....... this will make it easy for the next time.

Good Luck...

I purchased a Sanyo 19" Flat Screen LCD/HDTV that accepts a digital signal. We have cable at our new marina.

I removed the 4 screws that held in the 13" TV/VCR combo and then took it off the boat. The Sanyo has a stand which sits nicely on top of the pull out for the previous/factory TV. I plan to mount it more permanently but for now I simply disconnect the TV and lay it on the V-Berth when we go for a cruise.

Where do you boat in Charlotte? I had a job opportunity this past summer in Charlotte but did not persue it because of what I preceived as nowhere to boat.

That's exactly what I will to do, but my main question is what is the best way to fish it thru. Front to rear, rear to front. Better to remove something first?? I can get it done but I always value the advice from someone who has done it before.

Thanks for the advice of the extra line for the future. !!!

Agreed, funny how your priorities in life change. Regardless of the $$/challenge/opportunity, I need to be on the water boating.

UPDATE !!!

Well I resolved my TV cable issue today. Tried to run a new cable, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to fish it thru with the time I had to work on it today.

So, I came up with another solution. There is an external TV connection next to the shore power for land based cable TV service.

I never use it, but whenever I hook up an antenna to it, the TV works great so I figured that cable must be good. So ... I just unhooked it from the inside and tied the new antenna cable from the arch to this wire and now it works perfect.

Not sure if I explained this very well, but maybe you get the picture.

I also added some di-electric compound to every connection, and bypassed the Ship / Shore switch box and went directly to the inline amplifier then to the digital converter box. Figured the less connections the better.

In the end I had 22 crystal clear channels.

Glad it's done, and thanks for all the advice.
