Rusty Generator Pan

Before I owned my boat it must have had a raw water pump leak which led to the pan getting rusty. Anyone have ideas for stopping the rust short of pulling it out of the boat and replacing the pan? Any kind of treatment such as Ospho or Loctite Rust Neutralizer work?

Unless you can clean it up and paint it, I would be surprised if any treatments would help much. for auto body work I’m used to buy this stuff, http://picklex20.com/technical-picklex20/ and it worked great. but i suspect that pan would have to come out to make it worth the effort

often the gen has to come out to replace the pan. Major pita. It should be stainless so while it may not look good I doubt it s going to rust thru. Maybe I m just too clumsy when changing oil filters and mines are always well protected
