Vic, periodically (while at marina)I get the flashing amber light. When this happens I pour some home made salt water & amber light stops flashing. I make up this solution with no formula; salt to water ratio. Two questions: 1) How much salt s/b added to a gallon or quart of fresh water. 2) How much of this solution should be added to bowl during flush cycle? I have never measured either. Can one add too much solution to unit? BTW, I have the Lectra/San MC unit.

Hi Bob,

It's virtually impossible to put too much salt into a Lectra/San. Worst case scenario, it'll blow a fuse on the electrode circuit. But you've got to add a LOT of salt for that to happen.

To pre-mix up a salt and water solution, put 2.5 pounds of household table salt into a gallon milk jug. Fill it with hot water and shake it up to dissolve the salt. Then let it sit overnight. In the morning, pour off the liquid into another container. Some of the salt will have settled out and will be on the bottom of the original container. You can save it for next time, or throw it away, whatever suits your fancy.

Now you have a "saturated solution" in your second container. About 4 oz. of this liquid should be sufficient (per flush of the toilet).

Thanks Vic, good to hear one can't add too much salt/water solution to Lectra/San. I've been using a much weaker solution but has been working fine for me. It also appears that a single add'n is good for more than several flushes.
