Salvage Company Recommendation

It turns out that when I hauled my boat, I noticed that there was some damage to my swim platform. I called my carrier, Progressive last week and was told an adjuster would look at it today.

At around 3:30 today, I got a call from the adjuster and then met him at the boat. He looked at the damage, took pictures and went back to his car to fill out his report. About a half an hour later, he walked back to me and handed me a check for the repair. He told me that if it costs more than his estimate, they will pay the difference.

I have had two claims with Progressive and both times they were handled professionally and quickly.

Try giving Sea Tow a call. They also do salvage. They have been busy cleaning things up at the Anchorage. Possibly they can help.

I saw the boat from the river. Anyone who thinks Radio Waves can be repaired to it's pristine condition before Sandy, is in a "legal to smoke pot" state. The fact that it is sitting on it's starboard strut and shaft makes it a moot point. As I've said before, the vibration will never be removed from that engine. Travelers is dropping the ball. I've never heard of the policy holder responsible for finding a crane to do anything never, mind a delicate job like this.

An attorney or the threat of one is the next step. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Time to go to ass hole Brad, and I know you know what I mean.

Just Saying,

Billy 10K.

I wouldn't touch the boat if I were you. The insurance company hasn't even looked at it yet. Sounds like you are getting the run around from an overtaxed system. If the boat is further damaged when removed you will have a problem that you don't need.
The homeowner always has the option to go through his insurance company if he is in a rush. They can remove it from his property any way they want and then fight it out with your company.
Contact a "Public Adjuster" and see if they can do anything for you. Seems like you want this boat totaled anyway. They will get a percentage of whatever money they get for you, but it's better than going through the aggravation you are going through.
Many years ago (70's) I worked for a company that repared, bought, and sold commercial printing presses. These machines were much larger than your boat. We would break them down and skid them up and then the riggers would come in and move them. They went in and out of buildings in crowded Manhattan like it was nothing. I'm sure the skill and equipment has only gotten better over the last 35 years. A good rigger with the right equipment will put that boat on the back of a truck or barge and have it done before lunch.
Dockbuilders, boat haulers, and/or boat repair people don't have nearly the right amount of experience or equipment to do a job like that

JVM is correct, Brad, I use to own a modular home company in Kingston, the crane guys that use to set the boxes is what they need.

Brad, the salvage is not your responsibility. I'm a travelers agent and I have to say on the yacht side they are far from my prefered carrier. Also, let the homeowners insurance and your carrier deal with any possible subrogation for damages. If you need any guidance feel free to email me.

Not to turn Brad's thread into a advertisment, but who is your preferred carrier?

I gotta say, I am dangling out there as well waiting on a very very large check. I call my insurance company, no response, I email, no response. I don't like sitting like this. My policy says I will have a decision and money in 30 days, that is this week! You want to be nice to not piss off people, but at the same time, you also want to be taken care. I paid my premium on time, never late, without fail.

I prefer one beacon or new hampshire. I personally have new hampshire on my boat, have already received my hurricane haul check, have had the surveyour out almost 3 weeks ago, and am waiting on estimates so we can determine total loss or not.

Wow, looked them up. Amazing how much money insurance companies sit on! I wonder who insured them as they are locaed on Water St in NYC which I heard become Under-Water St.

New Hampshire Insurance Company is a Stock company that was incorporated in 1862-06-01. New Hampshire Insurance Company is a Fire & Casualty insurance company and has assets of $4,585,584,395, capital of $5,325,065, and net surplus of $1,646,753,464.

I think that the system is just completly overwhelmed by the scope of the damage, whether insurers, adjusters, cranes, salvage, etc and they have to prioritize... Of triage the casualties

The boat isn't going anywhere... The property owner is to going to use his pool for 6 months, and if water was high enough to float that boat on his property I m guessing he has a lot to worry about inside the house

It s obviously stressful for you but unfirtunately it s hardly an emergency situation for the insurer

Now, why don't they bring a forklift to pull the engines and lighten up the load? Chances are they will have to come out anyway whether the boat is totaled or real repaired.

new Hampshire Insurance is actually an AIG company.
Good luck with all of this, you made me read my current insurance policy. At some point, (30+ days) after receiving proof of loss, the company could be put into a "bad faith" position which is never good for them, though of course these are extreme circumstances. The company has the duty to defend you for liability if it comes to that. I don't think you're liable however. As said many times, get everything in writing.
I'm sure it will ultimately work out though I'm sure the stress level will be off the charts for a while. Travelers is ultimately a reputable company.

My boat was totaled too and I called Progressive the next day. I had an adjuster there within 2 days and settled the salvage. Last year, Irene ripped my swim platform off and they put a new one on for 15K. It came off again and then some. Progressive was great. No problems with them thus far.
