In the late 70’s my friends and I would run over from Bay Shore where we docked our boats and tie up to the OBI dock (they disallowed docking after too many drunken boaters were getting into trouble). We would hang out all afternoon and evening on weekends. On the trip back to Bay Shore I remember a few times between midnight and four in the morning, my friend having to hang off the front of my boat with a flashlight pointing into the water while we were going maybe 3 or 4 knots as we passed West Fire Island because we couldn’t determine the channel from the buoys, the sand shifted so much from week to week. It was certainly one of the greatest bars ever. Another of my favorites back in the late 70’s was Hammerheads on Sunrise Highway if any of you can remember that crazy place. A couple of years ago I drove to Oak Beach to have a drink after spending Christmas at my Moms in Babylon my brothers and I were surprised and depressed to see only a few pylons left standing in the water. OBI - Crazy times, spectacular sunsets and hot Long Island girls. Some other memories… performance boats racing between the sand bar and the dock, frequent boat stops by the police, the thump thump of the amazing sound system and the large beautiful ship models in the bar.

Yup, stiil the same, and the best dam girls that exist, but just like everything on LI, the are costly. :)
