looking to buy a 1988 30 sea ray sedan looking to find out any good or bad things about this boat it has twin 260 hp merc. with 837hours fwc it looks in good shape will have surveyed

A good friend has a 1989 Sea Ray 30 sedan bridge and absolutely loves it. His has 454 mercs and a genny. Tough access to the port engine. Consider hiring a seperate mechanical surveyor in addition to the pre-purchase survey. The pre-purchase surveyor will only do a visual mechanical check. With over 800 hours on the clock, the internals should be checked as well. Good luck.

when we look at the sea ray 305 it has all the option you can have which of course puts a lot of weight on around 11500 lbs twin 350 with 260 hp i was wondering if the boat is to heavy for the hp which leads to burning a lot of fuel and not getting on plane i can't find any information on it

Al told me his boat is 12,500 wich sounds right with the big blocks. Small blocks in that boat will definitely have to work harder to get on plane so it's a legitimate concern, but a sea trial will expose any problems with performance. FWIW, Al's boat planes well but needs the tabs to lift the stern efficiently.
By the way- his boat will walk away from my 34 Silverton with 270 HP (small block) Crusaders. My boat weighs about the same as Al's. Hope that helps...

If I remember, Al has a 35 Mainship. Yes that boat runs great with big blocks, but I also know they run pretty good with 350's in it. I have a friend with one and she runs very well with those 350's.

Different Al, cwms!
As I said, a proper sea trial will show if there's a problem. The surveyor should do it as part of his wet survey, but won't pilot the boat.
