Sealant for front hatch

Hi, I've just finished redoing my OEM aluminum hatch on our Chris Craft Commander and need to re-install. Originally it had some type of butyl tape for the hatch to deck seal. Is there something I can use instead or if I do need to use the tape, does anyone know where to purchase?

Chris, I would suggest 3M 4200 (will be harder to remove in the future) or boatlife caulk, both are available from Boatfix...obviously make sure both surfaces are clean, I use rubbing alcohol to make sure, before applying a bead of caulk..

If you need to purchase butyl tapes, you could go to www.crlaurence.com. Type in butyl tapes in the search box. The only problem with the butyl tapes is that they cold flow, under constant pressure. You can purchase them with an embedded shim, which would eliminate this problem.

If I were going to use a sealant, I would look at Lifeseal from BoatLife, 3M marine silicone or,3M 4000 UV. All would be good choices.

Thanks all. Hopefully it'll be done this weekend so I can yank the shrinkwrap.
