Hello, All- I'm slowing working off things that need to be addressed in my 3257. One of the ugliest eye-sores is the side windows and the weather stripping that has pulled away from the frame. It appears that I need to remove the screws to pull the aluminum frame off of the windows and replace the weather stripping. I suppose there is also a sealant that I need to apply, as well. Has anyone done this before and is there something I need to look out for? I'm guessing there is no standard place to order the weather stripping and will have to look at it when it comes off to match it. I have attached a picture where you can see the stripping has pulled away. It is like this on virtually all corners of all the windows and when it rains, I get nasty streaks going down the side.

photobucket has screwed up their link generator.
If you edit out the URL part above from the link the pix will appear where it should.

We had the same problem -- well, the right (starboard) side windshield shattered in the storage yard last winter, taking a lot of the weather stripping with it (although the weather stripping was pretty tired anyway). We keep the boat in Yankton, South Dakota, a small town of less than 25,000, and yet the local auto glass place fixed us right up. Ron's Auto Glass. I only mention the name if you want to give them a call. They sized and custom-ordered the tempered glass and then installed it complete with new weather stripping that matched the old. In other words, if a relatively small-town auto glass place in SD can do a great job replacing the weather stripping on a 30 year old boat, I'll bet if you give an auto glass place a call certainly in Cincinnati, they should be able to handle something like that. That might be the kind of job where a pro can do it so much better and cheaper that it doesn't make sense to spend the time doing it yourself.

If you decide to rebed the frame, before you pull the frame, run tape all the way around about 1/16" away from the frame. Then tape the outside edge of the frame.

When you do bed it, the caulk you use will ooze out onto the tape instead of the fibrgalss and the visible window frame. Run your finger around the frame to smooth out the caulk. Remove the tape.

Makes for a nice looking job.

I'll try taking the frame off of the window this weekend. I will go ahead and tape around it before I begin...good tip! Hopefully, this won't turn out to be a huge deal. I just want to replace this stripping and re-seal everything. I'll let you know how it goes.

Doug
