I have received a pic as an attachment to an email. I want to identify exactly where it was taken. SF Bay is in the background. Also, there is a land "spit" that extends into the bay and a white building that I hope someone can use as a clue.

I have no idea how to send the pic here. I am, to say the least, computer challenged. Can anyone walk me through the process? Thanks.

Get a free account at Photobucket.com. Upload the picture to your account. Copy the [img........] link into your post here. Look at the "Preview Reply" to see if it worked ok. Photos need to be of medium size for this website.

There are tons of land spits. Is the pix in the central bay(east of the GG bridge) or one of the north or south bays. Size would help, too.

Maybe take a look in google earth and put the grid overlay and give us the position.

Fby, I am going to test your patience! I est. an acct. The picture has the following across the top

IMG111-20111126-1209.jpg-Windows Photo Gallery

Copy To Gallery File Fix Info Print Email Burn Make a Movie Open

I peeked in "Open" and typed "Paint" and accomplished nothing. I am operating Windows Vista. You say I should now "upload the picture". Hum er aaa - how is that done? Thanks!

if the pix is saved on photobucket then look below the pix for the .img link. copy that to BE.

"Saved"? No. it is not saved. It is an "attachment" to an email my son-in law sent me.

----then again, maybe yes. It somehow got filed in a file called "pictures". Still don't know how to get it in BE.

open your photo bucket account click BROWSE look through your picture files and select the one you want to upload to PB. click OPEN. once it is on PB do as above to get to BE.

Progress: I now have an account and the pic is in the account. I have fiddled around and still have no clue how I get the pic from the account to an answer in a thread on Boatered.

I'm not familiar with Vista.

click on the picture in photobucket that you saved. under the picture there should be an option for
[img /img]. point with your mouse on that and a yellow word "copied" will appear.

Now, come back to BE and paste the link you have copied into the reply window......good luck!

I don't know how I did this. I hope it works. The woman is my daughter. The question is where, as exactly as possible, is she standing? Clues: the white building in the background, also the "tower" to its right and the fencing below her. The water is SF Bay, not San Pablo or Richardson. YB Island was one of my guesses as was Sausalito. I was wrong. Is that gas storage in the background?

It is just a game I'm playing with her-nothing important. But I figured you guys might be great detectives as well as great yachtsmen. Any guesses as to where she is?

Rats! It didn't work. It just copied the pic #.

Start over.
Save the attachment PIX to your computer in the pictures folder, open it to verify it is there. Then close it.
open Photobucket and select the browse command. browse your computer pictures folder and select that PIX and copy to PB.
Verify it is save on PB
UNder the pix you will see the link. click on that
Past that [img] link onto boatered

Many thanks for your help and patience. Could she be somewhere near Lombard Street or ----?

That could be treasure Island in the back ground. So it could be on the east side to coit tower. The black structure at the warf and the tower with antenna on the far island could provide more clues.

Lombard street is very well manicured those trees are not. There are steps in several laces including Filber street. Those roofs will be a clue. If she is missing I'm sure we can get a local RO to put boots on the ground try to verify the location.

No, she and her hubby are playing with my head. I lived in The Bay Area from '58 to '73. I visit a couple of times a year and should be able to guess this one-but haven't been able to. Is that a staircase I see? Could be. I'm going to mess around with Google Earth and see if I find it and maybe the tile roof.

Later.
