this is a follow up post to a previous post regarding trying to find a streamline shaft anode (1 3/4") in magnesium for a recently purchased boat
my search led me to Tacoma Propeller and a very interesting discussion with what I believe is a very knowledgeable person - looking for some reaction from RO's on what I learned
1) there is no anode manufacturer producing 1 3/4" magnesium anodes for a shaft type application
2) never mix anodes - my plan was to put a magnesium "diver plate" on hull to replace current zinc (6"x12") and then to just replace the zinc anodes on shaft with new zinc anodes - was told never mix and match
3) possible solution (really looking for input here) - recommendation was to install a "shaft brush" (copper) inside the boat on each shaft and then run a copper grounding wire to the main grounding bar from each brush (or closer ground wire) - this in turn is already grounded to the hull anode which if I replace with magnesium means shafts are now grounded to the magnesium hull anode via grounding wire - with this set up no need for shaft anodes
hmmm - anyone ever heard of something like this?
the whole reason here is new maintenance before launch for a new (old) 1999 Cruisers 4270 I have just purchased - there is absolutely no corrosion on boat today so leaning toward just new zinc anodes all around but since is a freshwater boat really wanted to use magnesium
