I was on a 1993 350 aft cabin the other day and was wondering how one would switch between shore power and the generator as there is no selector. Than I did a search and found the topic listed above.
Is this correct and if so how does one run the generator without a load to let it warm up before transfer or cool down before shut down.
There is of cause the field breaker on the control box on the generator itself but that is hardly something for standard ops.

Just not sure I would like the set up the way it comes, I like to control the switch over myself.

Yes it is. Mine is set up the same way. I have never found it to be a problem, if its something you don't like you can always change it or open the engine hatch and switch it yourself.

Load can be anything from 1 - 25 watt light bulb to running 3 A/C's, water heater and stove. If you want to run it a couple of minutes to warm up, just run a light load before turning on the high wattage stuff.

if you want just shut the two breakers off to the 110v. Let the gen-set warm up and then turn the on one at a time. keeps it from surging

Automatic transfer switches are great unless one leg transfers and the other one doesn't like mine did and I had to have the generator rebuilt. I now have a manual switch.
