I have about a 10 year old pump with an expansion tank in my water system. Last night i tried to do dishes and when i tried to run the faucet it would only pump a good stream of water for about 4 seconds. After i would shut the faucet off for about a min. it would build up pressure for about the same 4 sec. I checked the pump and it was running but would not shut off like it would before. I just filled the tank so i know i have water in the system. I was wondering if it might be a bad pump or if the expansion tank would have anything to do with the problem, or maybe something else i might be missing. It worked fine this weekend. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I had that same problem in my RV last spring (2006). The supply line from the tank was clogged with slime and miscellaneous goop right where it came out of the bottom of the tank. Removing the hose, between the ShurFlow pump and the tank, at the tank end, and working a straightened coat hanger into the fitting got it going again. Then it was a matter of flushing out the tank and refilling it. It's been fine ever since.

Could also be a hunk of something clogging the screen in the faucet. Check those as well. Tom

I didn't immediately think of that, but Tom's right - if the faucet(s) have aerators on them, remove the aerators and clean them out - you'd be amazed at the crap that can accumulate inside the aerator and cut down the water flow!

Vic your the man again. I had already pulled and cleaned the faucet screen. Always seems to get some sediment caught in it that the big screen off the pump doesnt. Any way i took your advice and pulled the hose off the bottom of the tank. Had good flow out of the tank, next found a by-pass valve that had very little flow through it. Took the end of it off and found a big ball of what looked to be plactic filings from when they cut the valves into the tank. As long as it was all apart i flushed the bottom of the tank twicw and i have great water flow. Thanks again Vic. New boats should have a sticer attatched to the front of the owners manual that reads IF YOU CANT FIGURE IT OUT GO TO BOATERSED.COM All you guys are great!! Thanks again
