Silverton 37 Convertible

I am considering a 1983-1988 Silveton 37 Convertible. The layout is an almost duplicate to a Trojan F32.

Any help with info, particularly hull integrity info, would be a help.

this may not help much...but...here goes anyway. my slip mate has one and he loves it. great accessability, and what seems to be a solid well designed hull.

also seem to think this is one of silvertons more popular models...

Alas - I saw a 37 today and the berth is only 6' long and I am 6'4" tall. Doesn't work caddy cornered either. Shame cause I really like the layout.

Now I'm looking at Silverton 34 Convertibles. Seems they have a queen size berth. If anyone has info, let me know.
 
Did you actually get up and stretch out on that vee-berth in the 37'er? Or did you just measure it?.

In the 34' Silverton, that'll be 1989 or newer for the C/L berth, have you actually gotten up on one of those and stretched out on it? At 6' 4", you could have your work cut out for you.
 
yep - got in the berth on the 37. Not even close to comfortable. Have not seena 34 yet.
 
I have a 1986 34C and love it. I am 6'2" and have no problem with the forward bunk. Solid hull, 270 HP Crusader engines very reliable.
 
thx Planeguy - do the legs hang off or do you still have room? Also, how many hanging lockers are there? Does your head hit in the shower? Looks like you can put 4-5 folks on the bridge comfortably. True?

Any other plus and minuses about the boat would be appreciated.
 
my buddy converted his v-berth to an angled bed. not owning one personally i can not tell you if that will gain you a thing. seems to me he moved around a few of the cabinets.
 
If the Silverton berth is like the Trojan berth, you have to give up a hanging locker to get the angled bed. And it does not add length.

Looks kewl though with the dresser, but not worth the locker loss.
 
My berth is angled so there is only one hanging locker in the forward stateroom.
 
My brother-in-law has a '87 37' Silverton. He put a pull out couch in the main salon and him and his wife live on the boat in the winter months down in Fla. My BIL is a big guy and won't fit in the v-berth.

my lady and i do the same thing, we sleep on a pull out couch in our saloon instead of the v-berth...

There's much I like about the Silverton 37, but the berth in a Trojan 32 and a Hat 34 are 6'4" long. I like the salon best in the Silverton, so I was hoping it would work.

Thanks for the input though. Keep em comin, especially on the Silverton 34.

BTW - whatever I buy will be a full time live aboard. On the Silverton 37 or Trojan 32, I will raise the settee to a permanent berth and put one set of drawers, one long hanging closet, and a washer/dryer combo beneath the berth.
 
Just curious, but why aren't you comparing the 37 Silverton to the 36 Trojan?
 
Good question SLW -

I have a Trojan F-32 and it is quite spacious inside. My dock mate has an '88 Silverton 34 and our interiors compare quite well. The F-36 is larger than both and would be a better comparison to a Silverton 37. Now the newer Silverton 34c and 36c are nearly 40' overall and IMHO, they make incredible use of space... but it's should feel large becuase it is.

As a live aboard, I would want a seperate shower stall. F-32's don't have that but the F-36 does.
 
We had a 1988 Silverton 37C for 5 years and it was a great boat. I am 6'3' AND my wife IS 5'5" and we both slept on the forward V berth, we laid sideways, port to starboard and it was quite comfortable. I still miss the boat.I worked extensively on the boat, if you have any questions let me know.

Good friend of mine has the 37 convertable. It was built just prior to 93...maybe an 89. It's a good seaboat although a little wet on the bridge when Lake Michigan kicks up. Great layout. Has a large head and shower, galley and salon. Good storage under the aft deck. The downsides are the leaks. Windows leak and tend to spoil the nice interrior wood and they are hard to track down. The gel coat on my friend's boat does not buff up and shine really good. When clean, it looks good but it's hard to keep clean becuase the gel coat seems porous. I seem to recall some stringer issues described on Boat US. Check the Ask Caroline forum. I do know that the stringers on the 37 look very strong and accessibility to the bilge is good. A surveyor should be able provide you with a report as you can get to much of the boat to check things out.
 
The full shower in an F36 uses the space where the second locker would be in an F32. Not only does it take away the second locker, it makes the berth seem much smaller.

The galley in the F36 is better in that you get a full size fridge and only one step down vs. 4 on the F32.

Like all boats, it's a tradeoff. Good info on the verton 34. I'm trying to locate one to look at.
