I have two spots where the stitching has broken, resulting in zippers have started separating from my bimini canvas. Any shops around that will take a small job? One zipper has separated about 3" from the canvas, another panel has it's zipper separated for the length of a foot or so.

Conversely, if it's relatively easy to fix myself (e.g. not that much of an opportunity to eff it up badly), where can I pick up the proper thread, needles, etc?

Try Patino at the north side of Haverstraw maina.

If you would rather get the canvas repair done this season instead of 2 years from now you might want to give Harry Parker a call. His shop is in Midland Park, NJ but you get things back when he says you will. If you can't find his number let me know.

He has done quick repairs for me while I wait.

I just had a zipper that needed to be re-sewn, took the piece to Patino and they repaired it while I waited. No harm in going there to see if they can do the same for you.

Thanks! I'll give Patino a shot, and if they're swamped, I'll give Harry Parker a call.

What about Bob.. (Starry Night) didn't he buy an industrial Sewing Machine...

Pantino will rip you off as well. Call Harry Parker - He will usually come to the marina

Try Stony Point Beverage. They have a machine in the back and you could get it the same day if they are not busy. I have had several pieces done in an emergency...

Butch that sounds too good to be true. Have a beer while you wait for canvas work? Heck, I'll bring ours down and we can have a 'kegger given all we need done.

Parkrode360, if you take a ride up to Rondout Yacht Basin they have a guy there who is real good and will work on your canvas. Ask for Jesse...its a good excuse to go for a ride.

Dan, thats what the emergency was, the cooler was dry!

I normally would recommend Harry Parker but he did a lousy job for me recently. I had him replace my front and side panels recently. He mis-measured the canvas section and had to re-fit them three times, the last time I had to drive all the way down to his office in Jersey to drop them off. They still don't fit right. Also on one of the side panels there was that green dusty pollen stuff you see in spring time, well rather than cleaning it off before stitching in the new eisinglass, he just stitched the glass right on top of it. That really ticked us off.

Seafarer does a real nice job, and Bill will promise you the world, but don't be disappointed when he doesn't deliver on time. If you go there try and deal with Heidi.

Stopped up at the Stony Point liquor store, wound up dropping off my cockpit canvas (bad zipper seam), rear bimini (same) and a piece of isenglass (snap needed). Was done next day, looks very professional -- they did a great job! Thanks for the suggestions
