Hey all. Not sure if this is the right forum to ask or not since I am looking for information for marinas a bit further south. I am currently looking at a job opportunity in Oceanside that would allow me to commute from my current residence in Tennessee for a couple of years while spending about a week or so a month in California. The idea of buying a boat and living on it as opposed to an apartment or house until we relocate sounds appealing but obviously the cost factor would weigh in since I plan on keeping my house and boat in TN as well. I know my questions are probably generic but I am just trying to get an idea whether I should even pursue the idea. I did a quick search on yachtworld.com and there are many boats that would fit my bill, however, the slip availability is probably another issue and there does not seem to be a high density of marinas along the coast where I will be relocating. How difficult is it to acquire a slip (say 40-50ft) and what are typical monthly slip fees in reasonably good marinas? I would think (and ignorance is bliss) that something south of LA and north of San Diego may be within reasonable commuting distance. Again, I would probably be looking at buying a boat already slipped but am not sure how common of a practice it is that the boats come with the slip. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.
