24 deg next 3 days

i am not to worryed its alot colder in other places we just dont prep boats for winter here much , bill

If your boat is sitting in the water, it will be ok. The water temp will be around 45*F. But any boat on a trailer or in dry stack storage will be in trouble if the boat hasn't been winterized or has some form of heat onboard! And insurance will NOT cover the damage!

It is generallt true that water temp will offset frigid air .... but not always. Delta old-timers still remember the big freeze, around 1991 as I recall. My 24' boat ( with an i/o) was in a slip at King Island's Venice dock which only had a 20' roof. My stern was in the open facing west and slightly north. Thus the frigid breezes blew the chill right at the outdrive and engine area of the hull. Result -- Freezup in both heads and manifolds. I was one of the lucky ones. AllState was my insurer and they were practicallt the only boat insurer to cover repairs without argument. My boat today is completely sheltered and away from west-northwest winds. I'm not at all worried about this week's expted freeze. -- Warren

Warren, you are the first one I've heard that had a boat in the water with a frozen boat! Very interesting. I think my boat is ok. It is a 22 ft in a 30 ft slip and the swim platform rests about 4 ft inside the slip.

Hi Flutter ... You should be Ok. O was not the only one to freeze in the water in the Big Freeze, although most of the damage was to trailrt boats. Bac k then stack storage wasn;t as precalent. I believe the position of the stern vs. the freezing winds back then were the determiner regarding freeze-ups in the water. I was in a north-south shed with my hull in the open and facing west. Hey, tell me about global warming! Whaat's happening!

I spent last night at my boat, end-tied to a shed at Tower Park. The lowest temp I recorded was 27, at 7 this morning. I talked to Curt later today, and his house in Lodi dipped to 20. TP had some broken pipes and for some reason, I didn't see any wake boarders. Go figure.

I would think the marina operators would know to let the water drip in the pipe system to prevent freezing.....open the last spigot on each dock just a tad saves a lot of misery!
