South shore anchor?

Kidding....Danforth, though I wish I had more chain. Alot of boats have the plough anchor which is good in sand but not in mud and south shore is alot of mud and grass.
 
I use a Danforth Hi-Tensile with 20' of chain. Works well, on rare occasions if weeds are heavy it might not set the first time but I don't normally have a problem.
 
My chain is short, maybe 6 - 12'.
I would love all chain, but that is pricey.
I may splice in like 40' of chain some day.
Chain helps it set fast, though if you snag with all chain, unless you have a bolt cutter, your loosing alot of chain!
 
Anybody ever heard or used one of these...

Danforth and chain is the way to go(South Shore LI), I have all chain. You need chain to keep the anchor set, anything that claims "NO CHAIN NEEDED" is BS. But I will agree it will "COME UP CLEAN".

This will slip out of the mud.
The danforth sets at a deep angle and as the boat tugs it sets deeper, so when the wind/tide shift, it stays set.
My danforth sets so hard some times, I can't get it to break free.

The digger looks like it will set for a while, but if you stay past a tide or wind shift, I bet it will break free and you will have to reset it.
 
What stops the boat from " jerking " on the line and un-folding the anchor ???
Does the anchor know who the jerk is ???
 
after you find a quahog in between the danforth flukes or it bounces off grass or hard shell pack you will switch to a delta.
 
I had a delta on my searay, seemed to work ok, but I nevered anchored out that much to give it a real test.

I use a Danforth on the GSB with 15 feet of chain. Never really had a problem.
 
I use a Delta with 20' of chain. It will set in eel grass where a Danforth skips over it. I have also had it dig in 6' deep in CG Cove, which has a pretty muddy bottom, holding 4 boats in 30+ wind.
 
I use a 22lb Delta FastSet. I have a 22lb Danforth as a back up. I also have 25' of chain connected to 1/2 nylon rode. I prefer the Fastset. I find it stays hooked better when the wind changes. I have spun 360 degrees on a fastset without coming loose. With a fluke anchor I have had a couple of times where the chain fouled the fluke when the boat shifted 180 degrees.

This weekend in Zach's Bay I was set well with the Delta. During the course of the long weekend we changed directions several times. Never a slip. When I pulled up yesterday, I had caked mud on at least 10' of chain - that shows how well the Delta dug in.
