Southern Bimini Islands

Great pix, Anne. Ill always remember my first trip to Bimini on a sailboat, The Blue Runner with you and Syl. I keep my Blue Runner Crew Shirt with other mementos of my most memorable trips.

In the south Pacific she would shark bait, the Blue Sharks get well over 10' to 15' and can top 100 lbs per foot.

Generally this is not a bright idea.

TigerPaws - thanks for the warning. Blue sharks are in the Atlantic, too. In fact, every time we jump in the ocean there's a possibility of seeing a shark, whether in 15 ft. or 1500 ft. I'd be interested in seeing the statistics of shark attacks that happen 3 feet behind sailboats. :)

I’ll be sailing through Georgetown in a month or two. I hear wonderful things about it.

TigerPaws...

How about some updated pictures from your journies???

Thanks-

Could have been worse, she could have lost the bikini ;)

And that would have been a BAD thing? Ok but only if there was no camera handy. :)

alanne,

It only takes one attack (bite) to ruin your guests whole life, personally it is not worth the risk. Just think about it for a moment, those legs trolling behind the boat at what 4 to 6 knots? Sounds like just about the right speed for a shark to give her a bite if for nothing else to see what it is.

No offense but it is ill-responsible to ever allow someone to be towed behind a boat in this manor, you are asking for an attack. How would you feel if one of your guests had their leg bitten?

I have personally seen a Blue Shark take the leg off a boy near an atoll in the south Pacific doing something similar back in the mid 80's. we think it was around 10'. We saved his life but just barely and he was forever maimed because someone thought it would be fun.

The land of litigation... Maybe I should second guess every "fun" thing I do in the future.

I understand your sensitivity to the issue as you have seen a rare, horrific event. However, I refuse to live my life in fear.

alanne,

If that was YOU in the water and you are ONLY responsible for yourself (no children yet) then it is up to you do as you please. I have seen too much death and destruction in my life to take unnecessary risks anymore but you are young and you will learn if you live long enough.

There is FUN and then there is taking foolish risks.

TigerPaws. It's her in the water and she has no kids. Next objection?

People can generally do as they please, just a friendly suggestion.

No person on our boat would ever be allowed to do such a thing but that is us.

sylvain, How come you didn't warn me about Sharks when you towed me to Radio Beach behind your Dingy?? [:(!]
Don't tell me the Sharks prefer Anne's body over mine.
BTW, Thanks for saving me from drowning.[:-scared]

You're just not as tasty as Anne is Joe ;) You had nothing to worry about.

Whetever you do TigerPaws, stay in the cockpit and don't get in the water.

Being in the water (which we are almost every day) is one thing, being towed behind a boat in the open ocean like bait is something totally different. But what the hell it is their life to ruin or loose.

Responsible people take acceptable risks.
