SPBM Bill

I also heard something today which I'm not happy about. I heard Brian will not be at the restaurant this season, if that's true it's a bummer, he had great food.

That would really suck. I agree his food was very good.

Who's going to run that Guy?

Hamburger includes all the fixin. Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and ketshup are extra but available for a slight fee.

BTW - The seats are only 6" off the floor!

I guess I'm guilty of complaining much like the rest of us but I too plan on being there for some time. I don't like several things about the place but as others have said every place has it's faults but in this case the pros strongly outweigh them. I had not heard that Brian will not be back I don't eat in the restaurant often but when I did I found the food to be good and He was always very nice. I hope he returns but if not I hope they find someone to fill his shoes.

I have his number,I'm going to call and see what's up. I will let everyone know what he say's.

I have to say, he could cook a hamburger alot better than another on water resturant I have been to ...;)

Sorry, could not let it go by!

It's not easy cooking a burger to the correct doneness. Sometimes it takes several tries, and sometimes it just can't be done - at least at one place I know of.

SPBM bill (cont)
Got my bill the other day and my fall '09 deposit wasn't on the bill. I called and "Stew"? looked it up on the computer. My deposit isn't there. I paid with a credit card not cash and I have the reciept. He said forget about the service charge. It's not a problem to go down there, I'm 1 mile away, but I am in Florida now and won't be home until March. Was anyone else told their deposit wasn't recorded. What a way to run a railroad.

Like Rommer and I always said to always pay with credit card. This is another reason why.

Unfortunately, it looks like Brian is not going to be back next year. Supposedly, Wayne wants to make the restaurant more family friendly and not more bar crowd oriented. Not sure exactly what that means. The new person who is going to run the restaurant (according to Guy), is the former owner of the flying goose restaraunt in Stony Point. I have eaten there and thought the food was good, but again sounds like they may want to change the bar crowd, which depending on whether you are single or family oriented, will probably be where you stand on that issue. In any case, there are a number of things that I disagree with in terms of how they run their business, but at the end of the day, it is Wayne's business and he can run it as he sees fit and we can either leave or stay and deal with it. The reasons I stay are 1. the people that are there and 2. it is cheaper than other alternatives, even with the nickel and diming, and 3. they have never treated me poorly. They are however, very unprofessional IMO in how they run the business, so I agree with Rommer, pay only with credit card or check, so that you have a record. Because they do not have good record keeping. Eddie is also a very good mechanic, but would not vouch for any of the others.

the Flying Goose had a couple of different owners, which one was he?

of that I am not entirely sure. Supposedly it is the former wife of the most recent owner, but I was not that specific because I do not know the involved parties.

I was hypothesizing with my wife that Wayne was going to run the restaurant as an off shoot of the golf course catering hall to maximize his investment in both. Sounded good on paper anyway.

Not sure how making the place a "family oriented" place is going to work since MOST families do not go to the marina during the week just the weekend. Since many families get to the marina later on Friday where they probably have eaten at home and given that MOST go home late Sunday afternoon or early evening, who thinks a restaurant can survive on one night a week of "family business"?

As for the Flying Goose, isn't that the place that might have a good meal one weekend and the next time you would go it sucked really bad?

Actually, the meals we had at the Goose just before it closed were all fantastic.

That's the way it is with restaurents, sometimes the meal is good and sometimes not. There is a place in Key Largo that we would tie up at on our way back from fishing offshore to eat and watch the sunset on the outside deck. It was always good until last time. We both had churning stomachs the next day. Now we go elswhere. We will try the restaurent at SPBM once. If it's no good we won't go back.

I ate at SPBM a few times last summer and was NOT impressed with the "quality" of the food. The cobwebs all over the place and the stench of sewage at the front door didn't help, either.

Are you sure you didn't step in Kimmie crap before leaving Pennybridge?

Been to the SP restaurant many times and I can't say I've ever smelled sewerage. Never noticed cobwebs either except at the Halloween party.

We always had pretty good food at the Flying Goose, but I'm sure that it was attributated more to the chef than the "former wife of the recent owner". Also as far as we observed they also were a very bar friendly establishment, so I'm not sure what changes they could bring.

We took my two daughters and their families, who live in Indiana, down for dinner last summer and they liked it there.Didn't see or smell anything Hogan did. We had 15 people there counting other assorted relatives and I thought the check was reasonable for the food and drink. Maybe they only liked it because I paid the check.
