Word has it that SPBM will be having less winter storage people/boats than in the past. I wonder why this is?
 
They looked busy hauling boats today. I know they have been trying to encourage people to stay for the Winter but I didn't hear that there has been a significant drop off in numbers. I wonder why as well.
 
Interesting as they haven't raised their winterization prices. Though their new service manager has been asking (not demanding, just asking) for 50% down.

Last year they damaged how many boats? A dozen, 2 dozen? How many did they fix, it wasn't all of them.

You have a marina manager that states you don't need any security at the marina. The second or third boat they shrinkwraped this year has at least 15 burn holes in the wrap and that's just on the starboard hull section. A young kid yard manager who's father owns the marina and can do no wrong, yea that works. The only guy with travel lift experience that actually cares about the customer's property is no longer allowed to pull boats.

Remember how last year, after the first snow last season they had to send a "crew" out to repair all the collapsed shrinkwrap jobs. That's a warm and fuzzy feeling.

How much extra did you have to pay the yard worker to block your boat with the proper pitch? I heard from a friend you had to argue with him for quite a while before giving him money to do it the way, you the customer, wanted it done.

I'm glad I trailer my boat.
 
This is my first season at SPBM and was planning on having them haul and wrap it. Can anyone confirm summerbreeze's points? I was also thinking about building a PVC frame and covering it with a tarp like I did on the other boat, but time may be an issue. I called about getting a Fischer cover, $2500 is a bit steep for me.

King... the only thing I can confirm was there were some boats damaged last season, mine being one of them. I assume they hit my arch while shrinking it as there was a 4 inch chip taken out of my "paint over aluminum" radar arch with blue paint scraps all around it. I will say that once I reported it to Wayne (Marina Owner) it was repaired within a few days.

I would suggest that you are there when they haul it and when they shrink it..
 
To be fair Leigh, you do have a personal relationship with the marina owner.
 
Rommer, Wayne is just a friend of a friend and if I were to be standing in front of him I would wager $100 the he would have no idea who I am. Regardless, my damage was minor, (no fiberglass work, just sand and paint..)

As I stated before you should try to be there when they haul the boat, I would recommend that no matter where you winter...
 
My bad Leigh, I thought it was closer than that. Having said that, I may have to take that bet! ;)
 
Anytime... I have run into him on about 4 different occations (outside of the marina)over the past few years and everytime he has no idea who I am. Two of the times were with the mutual friend present.
I guess some people prefer to stay inside their bubble and pay no attention to the people around them... That is unless you owe Money!! LOL

I am not from the area but I do have to cover my boat for the winter. From what I have seen, the Fischer cover is not a bad idea. The initial cost is expensive but it will last a long time. Tarps will last about 2 years but do not hug the boat like a cover that is semi-custom made. It's hard to make a square/rectangular tarp fit tightly on a boat; which is why many owners go with shrink wrap. Some people will ante up and dish out the money initially or pay as they go.
