The boat got a thorough cleaning with the last overnight outing two weeks ago. Clean inside and out.
I went out to the boat yesterday after work to get it ready for the Fourth of July weekend. Couldn't believe what I found.
Spider-rama. I've seen a lot of spiders on the boat before, but nothing like this. There was a big hatch of new baby spiders and the ones I missed the last time were now medium-sized and deserving of some respect. The masthead pole was encrusted with webs and remains of bug meals (empties.) The dock lines were covered with webs and spiders, too. The clam shell vents were nothing but arachnid condos. The white cockpit seats had lots of spots from what I guess is spider crap from webs under the canvas.
After loading up the drinks and other supplies for the weekend, the canvas got cleaned top and bottom with the trusty Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner. The washing followed and the boat was done about 10:00 last night. I made a point of not scratching any of the bites, so I was able to get some good sleep last night.
The hatch seems to be some kind of orb-weaver spider. They're gonna be killers by the time blackberries are ripe later in the summer.
