Can anyone recommend a spinng reel/rod for Tuna that won't break the bank?

WaxedElvis,
Last year I picked up a couple of Shimano Trevala sticks. They come in conventional and spinning. They are jigging rods that have unbelievable power for their size. I'd match it up with a Saragosa reel with braid or fluoro. I'm a rod builder and cannot match the performance and price point...maybe you can get a nice deal from boatfix...not sure if they sell them...
Tight lines,
Perry

The Trevala jigging rods are great, Daiwa has some sticks they are trying to compete with, I bought 3 of them, good value.

Spinning reels are another subject and that depends on the size of the fish you are targeting.

I am buying Quantum Cabos spinning reels now, very good reels, reasonable price, high quality, good service. They make a Cabo 70 that is fairly large. Problem with spinning reels is the line capacity. Daiwa make a braid line that feels like thread, you can pack a bunch on there, more than conventional braid.

Thanks for the answers, I want to cast for Tuna in the 50 - 70 pound range. Based on that

Perry - What size size Saragosa would you recommend?
Robyns Nest - Quantum Cobo loooks good too, obviously 70 is what you recommend, will check it out.

For both of you - Looked at the Trevala's, nice, medium/heavy action or heavy?

Braid makes sense for more capacity, what test?

Thanks again for the advice...I'll try not to catch them all.
