SPLASH DATE

My town has a st Patrick's day on the first Saturday of March.
That is today.
Never has there been this much snow and ice or cold temps.
Not sure if it is cancelled but it's crazy to hold it.
 
Be positive. In two weeks it will be 65 degrees, most of the snow will be gone and we will all be working on our boats.

It seems like everyone I know who moved to Florida saying that ended up using their boats less, not more!
 
I meant to mention that John. They either down size or even get out of boating. ITs way different there then here.

I think many Floridians take their boats for granted due to it being such a long season. I like having the boat to look forward to. When I brought my boat to Florida for a winter, most boats in the marina sat there all week and on weekends too. The boaters did not even vist their boats. I think we have a great boating season here on Long Island. Wouldn't mind a month or two more of summer weather, but we don't take any warm weather for granted!

Don, My sister ad brother-in-law moved to Palm Beach County in 91. As they were preparing for the move, he kept busting our shoes about how much year round boating he was going to do down there with the 21' boat he had at the time. Even went on to say that once they were settled he was going to start to move up in size.
After towing the boat from New York to Florida, and using it about 5 or 6 times over the coarse of a few years, he sold it and hasn't had a boat since.
Turned out that Marina space on the inter coastal was at a premium with rates much higher than here, the ramps looked like the LIE in the height of a holiday traffic jam, and once you were in the water there was a shortage of the type of day destinations he had grown accustomed to up here.
Now he say's that the only things he misses about Long Island is the great boating, and the pizza.

I'm lovin' this, guys! And not from the "well, I-I-I have all year boating" agle. Nope, respect and admiration.

There IS a zeal that comes with anticipation and then making the most of your days. We saw it when we lived in Kittery Maine. Happens I boat all year here, mostly for fishing and fireworks events in the coldest weeks. 0400 one morning last month the dock gangway was so iced over I slid down it on my butt for "footing" and the windshield didn't de-frost till about 0800. Was wearing a mustang suit. I hope you can enjoy that picture.

So often I hear "Just too hot to go boating." And I consider our finger canal home with bulkhead/boat lift a Gift from GOD. Years ago I drove that LIE, and the local ramp is just that, road rage and all.

I see the same thing in RV'ers. They get that coach de-winterized and they GO even though it's a shorter season.

So in a lot of ways I share your season and I'm glad to see it starting. Have a GREAT one! You've weathered a MacDaddyWinter to get to it!
 
Was hoping to pull the cover off in the next week, but not looking like that is going to happen.
Winter was tough, and left me with a lot of stuff to do outside the house. I usually like to get a good jump on that stuff, and wake the toys in the garage out of their slumber, before going down and starting on the boats.
In good years, I usually have a good portion of the power washing done outside the house by mid March, and the garage toys have fresh oil/filters, and their legs stretched.
Between the snow/slush/ice on the ground last weekend, and the rain today, I haven't had a chance to get started yet.
We need a string of warm days after this rain to make all the snow on the ground disappear.
With an early Easter this year, I'm looking at the second week of April for removal of the shrink wrap.
 
Warm Weather is coming ... Temps keep creeping up....

Between house and boat I need a week to prepare!
With cruise vacation and other things, not sure I am getting in early.
Canvas guy needs to fit new top, though that can be done in water.
I am going in 4/25 but may move it up a week.
See how it goes.
I know whenever I leave myself less time it rains and I can't paint.
As I see today, April rains are starting!
 
I'm thinking 4/25 also. I took on some long neglected house projects this winter and expect it will take the rest of this month and most of April to get to the point of finishing things up. I was thinking of postponing launch till May but between being in the Bahamas a couple weeks ago watching boats go by and then things finally starting to warm up here, I don't think I can wait that long :)
 
Boat is going to the mechanic 4-1 for some work and tuning and bay test. She will be put back on the trailer and once I am back to myself ill be able to clean her up and be ready to go.
 
My motors are out for new oil pans I should be back together and splashed first week in April
