Going to St Michaels MD by boat in July. Looking for a good marina to stay at. I would like any recommendation.

We like the St. Michaels Inn Marina. Its a quieter marina at the Inn with a dockside bar, pool, and all the usual amenities that come with a hotel. The downside is that it's on the opposite side of the harbor from town although there is a water taxi (fee) and the Inn does provide a free shuttle van. The other option is the St Michaels Marina which is on the town side of the harbor. It does have a pool and no water taxi or shuttle van is required to reach all that he town of St.Michaels has to offer. It is also more popular than the marina at the Inn so reservations may be more difficult to get on some weekends. Either marina is good, its the location, the popularity and availability that makes the difference.

St. Michaels Marina is very good, fuel, pump-out, 3 restaurants on site, although the pool is postage stamp size (good dock hands, though, so the higher cost can sometime be worth it). We more often stay at Higgins Yacht Yard (associated with the Two Swan Inn B&B), no frills, less expensive, even slightly closer to town. As Mike mentioned, the St. Michaels Harbour Inn and Marina is good, although also more expensive and a further walk. Or if you join the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum as a Contributing Member, you can sometimes dock there, but you can only reserve 2 weeks in advance. See ActiveCaptain for various detailed reviews.

I second the Higgins thing! The other 2 marina's are very nice and have all the frills. They are also $3.75 p/f on weekends and even higher on certain docks. Way to much money for St. Michaels. Higgins is very accomodating, close to town, not very good heads or showers but convenient.

Ditto on all choices offered. Our last 2 visits to St. Michael's were with our yacht club and we stayed at St. Michael's Marina. It has a gas dock and is very close to town and the museum. Staff very helpful. In the past we were members of the Museum and have stayed overnight at their dock back in their cove. That was a great experience!!

Be sure to check out Carpenter Street Saloon on Carpenter Street. No frills lil' bar, decent food, fun time.

Also vote for Higgins. Nice folks.

Carpenter Street Saloon also has great Bloody Marys! Also, Ava's for great pizza.

We went to St Michaels Marina and had a great time. All the restaurants at the marina had good food, Carpenter street saloon had a good breakfast and night life. The wife had a good time shopping in town. The 3 places I like to go to in the Chesapeake Bay is Inner Harbor, Annapolis, and now St Michaels.

Then you have lots more to look forward to :-)

Oxford, Chestertown, Rock Hall, Solomons, just to name a few.

We stayed at Higgens over the 4th. I really cannot say enough good things about the people, the location, and the rates. For 2 nights with our 32 footer, it was $160 including elec. The location is the best IMO for town access and I have NEVER experienced a more friendly staff. Sure, it's not as amenity-driven, but I don't go to Saint Michael's to swim.

By the way, the Big Band concert and fireworks on the Bay were spectacular - recommend it next year to everyone.

Geri & Dave,

I fully agree with you. That family-owned marina (Higgins) is a great stop and does have the best access to town.
