Stay with I/O or go to outboards?

My boat may require a repower due to ongoing corrosion problems. I am considering replacing the 7.4Gi Volvo Duo Prop with outboards if I can get better service . I do not wish to sell the boat.(2000 model 272 SportCraft)Boat is in southeast Florida.
