I may have an opportunity to purchase a 1960 Chris Craft 35' Roamer. This is a steel hulled boat, and other than some basics, I have limited knowledge of these models. I have gotten a referral to a local yard that (supposedly) built/repaired steel hulled boats for the Canadian Coast Guard and has a good reputation for hull work.

My concern is for some of the other systems. The motors are 283 Chevys, so I'd have to assume any small block will bolt into the mounts (since all small block Chevys are the same). I believe a BBC might fit as well, so repowering should not be an issue (if required).

I'm more leery of things like the transmissions and fuel system - I'm assuming the tanks are steel as well, and 40 years in a bilge is a long time....

Any other thoughts? My goal in this would be to go in knowing it is a project, and replace/refurbish the main systems to a modern standard. She'll never perform like a modern hull, but I imagine she'd turn some heads, and the thought of a half-inch of steel under you is comforting in our home waters, where lots of odd things are sticking up from the bottom...
