steering wheel on 2004 36 sport sedan

Anybody ever take the steering wheel off?

I need to replace mine and after taking the nut off of the shaft in the center of the wheel - it does not seem to come off. It doesn't seem as though I should be able to pull it right off because I can see a key whole with what appears to be a key going cross ways. Anybody have any advice?

The key should be longitudinal with the shaft, and it will pull right off (with some force), but keep the nut on a couple of threads, or your chin will be sorry. They "stick" for some reason, but should pull off.

slight tap with a hammer usually does it as well. what kind of wheel are you replacing it with?
